Vacuum canister location

Hey there, I was looking at someone's question about a 1991 pontiac grand prix's ac problem where it started blowing out of the defroster and the floor and very little out of the vents, my 2001 pontiac started doing the exact same thing, how can you tell if the vacuum canister is faulty, and where would it be located on a 2001 pontiac grand prix...I appreciate your help. Thanx, no ac in OKLAHOMA

We found that one of the vacuum hoses had been cut, so we bought a connector for $3.00 and coupled them together, and it worked like a charm.

2006 Grand Prix Heater blows cold air only

The blend door is probably what is keeping the air from blowing across the heater core and picking up the heat. I hope your manual gives a description and procedure for it.

The blend door actuator and other heater case doors will be either vacuum operated with a few canister diaphragms situated around the heater case, or they may be operated with electric motors. If you pull off the lower sound insulator panels below the dash, you can see the bottom of the heater case, and then find the actuator for the blend door. If vacuum operated, check for vacuum. The vacuum for the heater/AC controls comes from a single line from the engine, through the firewall, and into the back of the control head or to a control module. Then, many vacuum lines branch out from this central point to the canisters- the heater/AC controls will direct vacuum to appropriate actuators, or servos.

AC on 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix cools unevenly even though both controls are set at 60*

make sure the blower is blowing at a good ratio. If still not getting enough air, remove the ac filter located under the hood, between the firewall and under the plastic wiper blade cover. If this works, replace the filter

Ac blowing everywhere but out .

It may not be a relay problem but a vacuum line that has failed or was pulled off by one of the monkeys who broke two wires too. The vanes that control where the moving air goes (heated or cooled) are nearly always controlled by vacuum 'motors' and there is a vacuum reserve canister (it supplies vacuum under hard acceleration) that I have seen in GM cars with a very small, weak nipple that is easily broken off the canister.
Check all the vacuum lines you can identify: these are mostly small diameter black hoses about 5/16" to 1/2" and are routed to several destinations and start at the intake manifold. They are prone to cracking and only pushed onto nipples so can be easily pulled off by clumsy 'mechanics.'
