Last week, being very cold out...I did not turn off the engine when I refueled my 2007 Lincoln MKX. Ever since...the check engine light has been on. I have open and reclosed the gas cap several times...and even topped off the gas tank once...hoping that, that would reset it. The cap is on securely. What can I do to avoid taking it in for service?

get the battery changed or checked or proper voltage..may be too low on cold start..should read 12.8 or higher..

On your 2007 Lincoln MKX AWD, the dipstick is located on the passenger side in the engine. It sits between the transmission and the engine.

check the sensor under the seat and the plugin if Thats not it then check the fuse

go to an auto parts store and have the code checked, most do it for free. that will tell you why the light came on..

The battery is considered charged when the voltage between ( ) and (-) terminal is at least 12.6 Volts.
Check first the battery voltage with a multimeter, and make sure that both ( ) and (-) terminals are tight.

The 2007 Lincoln MKX is definitely towable "4 down". According to the owners manual: The ignition switch needs to be in the accessory position (position 2 of the 4 possible positions) so that the steering wheel is able to turn to let the front wheels track the towing vehicle. The transmission needs to be in "N" so that the engine's disconnected. The parking brake needs to be off, and the engine should be run for 5 minutes before starting out and "at fuel stops". This makes the vehicle a good vehicle to tow along with you behind your motorhome.
