The light on the dash showing gear position and odometer reading is very dim. Adjusting the dimmer knob doesn't help that particular area, although the other areas dim and brighten normally. Is this a fuse problem, or might it be a signal that the alternator is starting to go? Thanks for any suggestions.

SOURCE: The dash lights for odometer and gear indicator is out

maybe but sounds like a couple of lights have burned out,. the owners manual should tell you where the fuse box is located. The dash light for the odometer/gear indicator may be accessible from under the dash, get an auto maintance repair manual from the local auto parts store , perfably a chiltons for about 20.00. It will help u loctae the dash lights and the fuse box more readily.

SOURCE: 2001 Buick Regal LSE odometer and gear shifter position is not

I had the same problem with my Odometer in my 01' Regal. The dealer will quote you some outrageous price for a new instrument cluster. There are a bunch of people on Ebay that you can pay around $100 and they will repair it for you. Or, if your husband is pretty handy you can fix it yourself for about $2.00. All you need is a pack of resistors from RadioShack and soldering gun. I did it myself and with this videos instruction it only took me a little under an hour and $12.00.

As for the service light, I don't know what you had repaired, but to get mine off I had to get a dealer to reset the computer (about $100 or so).

Location of the dimmer swtich

Mine is the trip odometer knob. With the lights on, turn the trip odometer knob and the dash lights should get brighter or darker, depending on which way you turn it. If that doesn't work, Google it. They will tell you where the switch is.

Dash lights and radio lights dim at night

Strange behavior. I don't see a relay, but the components have logic circuitry. Not sure why--bad design. What I would do is test the dimmer. Unplug the connector and put an ohmmeter across the yellow and gray wires (terminals S and J). Ohms should go from infinity to zero as you rotate the dimmer knob.

My dash lights sometimes will not work at night on my 2007 tahoe , the odometer light and shifter light work as well as doors , ac , radio , the instrument cluster is not back lit. It will sometimes work...

{: ) I supposed you have checked the fuses at the IP fuseblock and tried adjusting the dimmer knobs back and forth. You can also try to check the cluster connector behind ( although not likely to be the cause). If the illuminations or backlighting works fine on other areas except the cluster, and gauges functions are fine, you will need to replace IPC (cluster) and program. Actually there is a GM bulletin for this kind of concern for the 2007 IPC poor backlighting. The IPC should be replaced with a 2008 hardware/software.

My daughter has bought a mazda 2 during the month of october of last year. after about a month, the dashboard lights has gone very very dim. any solution for this problem

Check the dimmer switch position or possibly you have a bad dimmer for your instrument panel lights could be found with headlight switch knob or a separate adjustment on dash.

My odometer reading is out. What is the problem?

First make sure the dimmer control is up, this is the control that adjusts the dash lights at night, it controls brightness or dims lights. if thats not the problem then its a bad cluster or bad connection at the rear of the cluster.remove the cluster unplug it and then reconnect and see if that helps, if not then replace cluster.

1999 buick century odometer light does not work

this is a common problem and the dash cluster must be removed and sent out for repair, cost is about $175 to replace the LED (Light emitting diode) display that has burned out, this is a faxtory defect as far as this expert is concerned, it is not a fuse problem.

My front dashboard lights are out and not functioning at all

If the battery is older than 3 years or has been totally discharged more than 2 times it is probably time to get a new battery. Of course this has nothing to do with only your dash lights not working unless the battery was dead. Have you checked the instrument lights fuse? Are you sure the dash lights dimmer switch is not turned all the way to totally dim? Sometimes it is the same switch that you use to reset the odometer, and sometimes it is another knob you turn.

My center console lights do not work, but the radio and everything else does. 2003 honda model. I just can not see the controls.

FROM ANOTHER POST:

the fuse is the #2 fuse in the underhood fuse box. that fusebox is on the passenger side of the engine compartment and it has a black cover on it that is approximately 6" x 3"

the fuse box lid should have a list under the cover of what fuses are what. the #2 fuse is a 15 amp fuse.

if the console lights work then the problem isn't the fuse.

check the rheostat that is used to dim the dash lights. that is the same button you use to reset the trip odometer at the base of the speedometer. that knob actually turns to brighten or dim the dash lights. it may have gotten turned inadvertantly

if the console lights work and turning the rheostat makes no difference then the rheostat switch in the dash is probably bad

hope that helps
