Encoder motor is bad on my 2000 gmc jimmy, I have googled this and it seems to be a common issue with the gmc jimmy's , was there ever a recall for this issue. This is going to cost me 650.00 to fix, I have had nothing but front end issues on this car since I got it, I have spend about 2500.00 in front end repairs and now this.

SOURCE: my 2000 GMC Jimmy will

Try cleaning the fuel filter, air filter, and check the sparkplugs. Along with that also clean the throttle body using the injector cleaner.f that is not helping, then the other possibility can be faulty cam position actuator solenoid. Basically it's how the PCM controls the valve timing. It sounds like obviously there is a problem in the system and it's keeping the cam retarded.
There isn't too much to the system, PCM, cam actuator solenoid & related wiring but it will take a Tech II (factory scan tool) to diagnose properly. Also you can get it scanned at autozone service center for free.-------------- This are the possibilities to be checked.Hope this helps.Thanks.

I have a 1993 GMC Jimmy with electronic transfer case but wont engage? What could be wrong?

Mode switch is common to give trouble, encoder motors do also.I would have the codes pulled.

No lights on 4wd dash switch but fuse is ok. Can't switch to 4wd. Does it sound like the transfer case module or transfer case motor

Start with the simple and check the switch it self first. It's know for the the switch it self to go bad and will need to be replaced. The other common area to inspect is the wire harness at the TCCM, corrosion is an issue which can cause no current flow to your TCCM from the switch.

If all electrical systems check to be in 100% running order, good chance it's going to be your encoder motor (tranfer-case motor).

Thank you for using Fixya and keep us posted.

My jimmy's 4wd acctuator seems to work and i can hear the module in the kick panel clicking but doesn't seem to want to go into 4wd every time.

two common things with the push button 4x4 the button panel itself or the encoder motor loose its marks usually the buttons will all flash if the panels bad and it wont go into four wheel high if the encoder motor goes bad but if these dont sound like your symptoms you might have a bad transfer case module hope this helps good luck

Flasher relay is clicking when signals are not in use?

Those are the typical symptoms of a problem with the mutifunction switch. The dielectric grease becomes impregnated with metal flakes, which jumps the contacts inside the switch. The clicking that you hear is the flasher relay located behind the glove compartment. Replacing the switch is not that hard for a DIYer. Some guys have remedied the problem by taking the switch apart, cleaning out the old grease, and applying new grease.

THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH COULD DEVELOP AN OPEN CIRCUIT CONDITION THAT RESULTS IN THE STOP LAMPS AND THE REAR HAZARD LAMPS BECOMING INOPERATIVE. THE CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP AND TURN SIGNAL FUNCTIONS ARE NOT AFFECTED.

My Jimmy won't shift into 4WD. Is it a problem with the switch?

It could be the switch, but most likely its the transfer case encoder motor. That is a common problem with 4 x 4s' with the push button selectors.

4wd problem

While you have a helper try to shift to 4x4, get under the truck and tap the shift motor with a mallet.Sometimes the shift motors stick if they haven't been used in a while. If this doesn't work you might have to replace the transfer case shift motor.

2000 GMC Jimmy Transmission Whine

Does it sound like a loud winding sound coming from the front right side? I have a 2001 Jimmy and the 4wd tries to engage when driving up steep hills and going at highway speeds. The actuator vacuum switch engaged when the transfer case vacuum switch sends the vacuumed air to the actuator. What is happening is their is either a leak in the vacuum lines, a faulty actuator switch, or a faulty transfer case vacuum switch. When the jimmy has enough air pulling in, the extra vacuum is trying to push the actuator switch in when it is not supposed to. It is a much cheaper fix than a transmission. GMC should have recalled the whole 4wd system on any of the S10's, the JImmy's, and Blazers.
