I have a 2004 Chevy Optra. Today I turned the key to shut the car off and it just kept running. I had to switch the key back and forth a few times to get it to turn off. After it turned off and I got out of the car, I noticed there was a whining noise coming from inside and all the lights on the dashboard where faintly lit up. I can't seem to get rid of this. The fuses where checked and they are fine. Could it possibly be my remote on my key as the battery is dead? Please advise

Hi

I have the exact same problem as you do with my 2004 optra and it happened just over 3 weeks ago.

How have you made out? I have to disconnect the battery and I'm going to try and call chevrolet if I can find the answer

I know exactly what you mean, i've had my optra for two years and the same problems happen to me all the time. I've notice though that they are more consistant whenever i wash my car or the weather is really warm. However, when the weather is very cold my alarm seems to have a mind of its own. Best way i've found to shut it off is to turn the key while you have the drivers door open. Plug your car in and let it sit for a few hours and it will reset itself. Disconnecting the battery does nothing been there tried it. I've notice all those lights do is kill the battery so disconnecting it will just save you power, on the other hand plugging it in will maintain energy. Also within six months of having it i needed to put a new battery in. I took it back to my dealer and because they are not GM they had no idea what was up with it. Two years and over sixty trips to them and no give they dont know. Took it twice to a GM dealer and was told nothing was wrong with it that it is prefectly fine and im just overly paranoid. Once i got the dealer involved with them they told me the engine switch needed to be replaced. Which was fine by me and since i purchased it from Ford as a used vehicle they paid for the part. Got the car back and same thing occured. Then they tell me i need a new battery i told the guy he need to go back to school and relearn whatever it is that he calls his carreer because i had just had the battery replaced. Its been three months since that and took my car in to the place i got the battery done and they tell me my battery is holding less than 80% charge, where as when they put it in it was holding 98% charge. Funny, the car is actually killing itself.

My advise get rid of it when you get a chance. When the maker cant even diagnose the issue and they were the ones who created the vehicle its not worth the headaches. Getting rid of mine in two months and that time cant seem to come fast enough.

What would cause my 2006 Chevy Uplander to run for a few minutes and then all the lights on the dash go off and it dies?

The Chevy's had a stock fault with the ignition switch. they issued a recall some three years ago. Check with your dealer.

Dodge intrepid runs shut off. Started after I changed the window and mirror switches.

sounds wierd but if you explained this correctly, that when mirrors or dis connected car will shut off, if this is correct then there is a short back feeding power to the ignition or computer keeping the engine running, check the wiring going to mirrors and see if there are shorted wires, this is where i would start

I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban 1500 with 103,000 miles. I am having problems when starting. When the key is turned, the engine will turn over but not start. Turn the key back to off and re-start and the...

Check for power out of the ignition switch. It sounds like the ignition switch is not engaging on the first try and its taking that second turn to get power from the switch to the ECU and so forth. I would replace the switch and possibly the tumbler if the key comes out while the vehicle is running.

My Chevy Optra does not shut off when I turn the ignition off. Two dealers have checked it out and can not find a trouble code. It is 2005

I had a 2006 Chevy Optra that wouldn't shut off as well. When I opened the door it would turn off but as soon as the door was closed the dash lights would come on dim and kill the battery if left long enough. If i pulled the I/P fuse in the engine compartment fuse box it would solve the problem but it killed the dome light as well. Pulling the cluster fuse or the wiper fuse from the i/p fuse box had the same effect....it was a real stumper as alldata had no listing for a 2006 Chevrolet Optra so I couldn't find any wiring schematics at all. I did a bit more research and found that the Suzuki Forenza is the same car. i got a wiring schematic and found out that the dome light module/key-in buzzer is actually in the dome light itself. I unplugged the dome light/module and jumped the orange(batt +) to the pink(ign) that comes directly from the I/P fuse and the car would stay running after i turned the ignition off. I cut the pink wire and installed a diode so that battery voltage couldn't backfeed to the I/P fuse. It's been three days now and every time i turn the ignition off the car shuts off, just like it's supposed to. A faulty dome light module seems to be the problem and a $3 diode fixes it. The people that own the car have spent hundreds of dollars trying to figure this problem out and didn't want to spend another $250 for a module. I hope this helps somebody as it seems to be a popular problem.
