Speedometer 2004 Yukon

The speedomter on my 2004 Yukon reads 20 MPH when I am clearly driving much faster than that. Is the a speed sensor issue?

I also have the same issue and after reading the responses and speaking with dealerships this lawsuit will only cover those vehicles that  fall into the 7/70000 mile arena. They are calling it an extended warranty so like most families who own a Yukon Denali XL we already passed this stage and it looks like I am out of luck. Has anyone had any luck with the mileage concern?

Speedometer works randomly. Registers 60 mph sitting in the driveway. I made it up to 120 on the interstate. Dealership in my town has agreed to fix my speed cluster free of charge. Mine is a 2004 Yukon purchased new and has 33,600 miles on it. Yes the mileage is real - I don't travel much.

I have that problem as well and so do others

SPEEDOMETER SETTLEMENT NOTICE

The court granted approval of the settlement and entered judgment on November 7, 2008. However, two separate appeals have been filed which seek to challenge the court's approval of the settlement. The settlement will not become effective unless and until all such challenges have been resolved and the judgment has been upheld.
Please check back to this site or call our toll-free number
(866) 514-0405 after January 19, 2009, to determine the status of the appeals and whether the settlement has become effective.

The problem may be the Electrical - Powertrain control - Vehicle speed sensor, which is easy to replace but why should you have to pay for it if that is the problem. A GMC mechanic inform me that water is he main cause for its failure.

There are others who have call a GMC Service Rep to have it fix, which i will try first.

My Speedometer reads faster than than actual speed and the reading to actually increases ex at 20 mph it reads 28 mph and at 55 mph it reads 80 mph. How can I correct this?

Do you have any codes ? Have you modified your steering/suspension in any way ? Have you changed the size of your tires ? If you can share more detail information, this would help

Speedmoter jumps to 20 when i put truck into reverse or drive

SOUNDS LIKE A BAD SPEEDOMETER if you can use an OBDII while driving and look for DTC output from speed sensor. possible loose connection can cause this as well

Sppeedometer works intermittantly

If the vehicle speed sensor was the cause you would have a check engine light and the transmission would have sifting issues into overdrive, I would think you just have a failing tachometer stepper motor (tiny DC motor) that drives the needle..

2003 GMC Yukon speedometer indicates less than actual speed by 30% - 60%.

Do you have after market tires that are larger than stock ? This will affect your speedometer.Another thing could be the speedometer gear which is easy and cheap. Its at the end of your speedometer cable inside of transfer case.

Speedometer does not work correctly all the time. Cold weather seems to make it go hay wire. Never stays stuck when the engine is off but registers 15 to 50 mph faster than actual speed

check and see if the wire on back off speedomter is loose and check your vehicle speed sensor see if working or broke and you also have wheel speed sensors that could be malfunctioning

2004 GMC Yukon. Speedometer is reading much faster than my actual speed. Then sticks sometimes. Checked with GM dealer here and they said that if my vehicle had less than 70K they would check the speed...

If you have cruise control in the vehicle you can test to see if it's the speed sensor or the cluster. If cruise control works, the problem is in the cluster not with the sensor. And it's most likely the stepper motor issue.

There was not a recall, but there was a class action settlement where GM agreed to extend the warranty on certain vehicles for this problem. Check www.gmspeedometerrecall.com to see if you qualify.

Why does my 03 yukon xl speedometer gradually flats to 0 while driving. it does not stall. it does it at least 1 a month specially in long trips or high speeds. when i arrive to destination it cools off...

It is probable that the cable for the speedometer is streached and your MPH reading is incorrect all or most of the time, get a friend to drive behind you at say 55 MPH so you will know the odometer reading ( may prevent speeding ticket )
All metal expands when heated and contracts as it cools. Your cable becomes slack when hot. Stay Safe!

Acually it's a 2004 Silverado Speedometer problem

Hi,

Sounds like your speed sensor (odometer sensor) is failing or failed. This sensor is found on the tranny. Best to consult your local dealership.
