First, you should have replaced the thermostat when the first signs of cooling problems..(the over flow reservoir is just that)..Its time to replace the thermostat, the hoses, and have the radiator flushed and the engine block reverse flushed..Check for coolant in your oil.. if there IS coolant in your oil..(light colored chocolate milky).. its time for a qualified professional... Good luck...
Hi, I recently bought a 2005 Saturn Ion and all of a sudden when I accelerate or at least attempt to, I hear "knocking" noise. It gets louder as I press harder on the gas pedal, what does this mean??? Also, my coolant light is on as well, however when we checked the fluids, it was full..will these repairs be pretty costly? And is it even worth getting fixed?
You have a sensor in the engine that reads the coolant level. Try to unplug it and hook it back up to reset it. You could also take the hot side battery terminal off to reset it as well. If it remains on, it might need replaced. It will not hurt anything by staying on.
It's probably dripping only when you are driving such as from a weephole where the water pump is located or it may be leaking onto a hot surface so the moisture evaporates, but will leave a stain. You should turn the vehicle off, let it cool and use a leak
pressure test with a tool you get from the parts store (they will let you buy a used one and take it back for full refund). You pump it up and then look closely with a strong light for any drips while there is pressure in the system and the vehicle is turned off.
full is full. doesnt matter what fluid is in it but you should never mix the green stuff with dexcool (orange stuff). If the lights is still on then the sensor in the coolant bottle is defective or contaminated or your not full yet.
remove electronic power steering (EPS) motor. remove the 4 bolts that hold on the motor housing. remove the housing. using a tooth brush, clean out the 'brush' dust from between the commutators. don't use cleaner spray as you might degrease the bearings. don't use anything metal to clean out the dust you might scratch or nick the commutators.
this solution has worked for over 500 miles for me. I'll keep you posted.
