Shaker 500 stereo

HOW CAN I TAKE OUT MY STEREO FROM MY 2005 MUSTANG, A CD GOT STUCK IN IT... My Shaker 500 ate all my CD's and I get a message saying CD error when I try to eject. I took it in to Ford and they said it needed a new head unit $400. I purchased a unit that had been pulled from a new car for upgrade and now the dealership says that the brackets don't line up and the plugs in my car ('05) are male where the new unit is female. Is there a way to adapt the new unit to my car? Melinda

Ditto. My Shaker 500 in my 2005 ate a few of my CD's as well. The strange thing is that I seem to be able to load another CD in the same slot and it will play. I'm not sure what's weirder, it playing another CD or me being stupid enough to put another in :). I hate the unit anyway so any help in either removing the Shaker 500 and/or a good replacement that will integrate seamlessly (or close to it) into the dash would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 07 GT and just recently, the cd player went NUTS!!! I cannot eject or load any cd's and the display shows initializing. Also, the stereo stays on constantly and chatters whenever I open the doors? It ruined one car battery and the dealer has no idea what the problem is? I think Ford needs to look into this and have a recall on the shaker 500 systems!

  • Anonymous Apr 12, 2012

my 2007 with the shaker 500 does and says the same thing. I agree with others they should have done a recall on them.

I have the same problem with my '07 GT. Very annoying. Of course, it's my favorite cd's that are stuck in there.

I have the same problem too! I hardly ever use the CD player in my 2008 Mustang, and the first time it happened it was practically new and I thought it was just a fluke. Today it ate my brand new Etta James CD.... I am mad!

Same here. My 2008 Mustang shaker stereo system will not function and reads CD Error each time I press any button. Now I cannot eject any of my CD's or play any Cd's at all. So frustrating.

Same issue here. However, mine happened suddenly after a recent auto accident. All I see is CD Error (no CD's in it) and when I try to load any it flashes "initializing" and does nothing else. Weird.

All problems but no solutions. I found only one type of solution. To get the CDs out, hit load and try to put a CD in even if it already has one, it should stop and eject the stuck disc, after the CDs are removed, disconnect the negative side of the battery for a couple minutes to try and let the shaker reboot itself. Like I said i found this solution and haven't tried it yet but I am going to try because i am having the same problem with my 2005 500 shaker

I have problems with my 06 shaker 500. A couple times a year the system will freeze, no music or anything. I have to shut my car off and let it sit a minute then restart the car and it will finally work. It also recently started initializing when I put a c.d. in. I had it replaced a few years ago when it started all this, they clearly replaced it with a new unit but the new unit was still doing the same thing, but after the warranty was up.

I have the same problem. mine pulls the cd's in and then push them out so i just keep my finger there preventing it from pushing it out. It then loads but sometimes it doesn't see the cd in that slot so what i do is to push the load button and then select that slot WITHOUT putting a cd in.It then re reads that slot and then find that cd.You might have to do that with all the slots.

Start the car, turn on radio to FM, press and hold #3 and #6 buttons. (This will perform a test) then press and hold #2, then press the CD Eject button (this clears any codes), then shut off radio and car.

My husband replaced the battery 2 days ago and my Shaker 500 has been going nuts, turn the car off and the CD player cycles even after turning off the unit and opening the door. He's trying to find the problem (and since I'm married to a technician I'm confident he will) but this is frustrating.

My stereo is doing the same thing after I had a new battery installed. Was you husband able to solve the problem?

Here's the solution! (1.) Remove unit (if you're not sure how to there are good visual instructions on Youtube). (2.) Only unscrew the metal cover that has the rubber screw on the back. (3.) Reinstall unit minus the metal cover.(4.) Remove the cd's either by hand or by the eject button when it starts cycling (you may have to take a pen or pencil and probe downward to make the "cd catching mechanism" grab the cd. If it doesn't catch the cd's hole the error codes pop up. (5) Inspect for any broken plastic slots; slot #2 was broken on mine, the cd kept getting out of alignment causing the error msg's. (6) Watch the mechanics as the cd exchanger cycles to see if you notice any thing else funny.

Undoubtly there's a bunch of us. My wife has had the radio replaced under warranty and it's gone belly-up again. Anyone know a good after market replacement that will fit in our last Ford product.

Ford won't replace or help with anything! My 2005 transmission went out at 62,000 miles. I'll never buy another Ford!!

i think you might just be a victim of a bad lemon, which is very rare these days, it doesn't matter what kind of car you buy, all mass production cars are pretty much made the same.

LOOOOOOOK at MarcV61 answer.

I thought TPPPPPT ... but free...so I tried it. The radio "reconfigured" (well OK he didn't say that). Went to each slot and out came the CD's.

Works fine.

Will it fix CD's forever and forever? Dunno, don't care. I want to keep stock (Shelby GT500) - so I'll use the AUX input from now on into my phone or MP3 player for obvious reasons.

Thanks MarcV61

How do i hook my pioneer radio in place of a shaker 500

You should be able to buy a adapter for the OEM plug in the vehicle player unit to the player unit of your choice.
That is if a butcher has not already been to work on the OEM wiring. Then that is a whole different story.

@novo07 mustang v6 shaker 500 radio 6cd changer, complete battery dead. after jump, radio wont come on at all. dead. Bought new battery, still no radio at all. all else works, fuses are good in kickpanel...

you may have blown an internal fuse on the radio. sometimes radios have an inline fuse on the red wire, located behind the radio. You must remove it to discover this problem though.

I am looking for the diagram # for the stereo system in the fuse box of a 2006 mustang gt

Not sure if the Radio is even turning on or what kind you have as there are a couple. Heres the info I can give you though. The radio (start) fuse is in the number 20 position (20 amp) in the fuse box inside the car located on the passenger lower side behind the kick panel. Remove the trim panel and the fuse cover to access the fuses. A diagram for that fuse is below. In power distribution box located in the engine compartment are 3 other fuses depending on which radio you have. in the number 6 & 7 position are the fuses for the rear amps on the shaker 1000 radio and in the number 16 position is for the front amp if you have the shaker 500 radio. All those fuses are 30 amps. See the diagram for that fuse box below as well.clifford224_57.jpgclifford224_58.jpg

Where are the radio fuses for my 2006 for mustang gt...even since the car was new the shaker 500 has had issues...the cds get jammed and the cd player says error and wont eject the cd

There could be two fuses that service the radio; one identified as 'Accessories' in the main fuse box and possibly a second in-line fuse inserted in the 12V line and under the dashboard.

Sometimes you can press and hold down the CD's forward and backward track buttons or play and eject buttons to release the CD. Contact your Chevy dealer and ask a Service Consultant if the Delco unit has this feature.
