On the front of the shift knob you will see an area that has a metal clip, using a flat tip screwdriver pry out this clip as you pry it out you will see it is a u shape clip, once you remove this clip the shift knob pulls up and off. then just pull up on the center console cover where the indicators are at, this cover just snaps in, the bulb can be access

SOURCE: Need to replace boot sleeve on manual trans shifter

The frame that holds the "leather" in place just pops right out (come at it from one side; it'll sort of pivot around the other side -- I can't recall which is which, but trial and error works). Alternately, if you remove the six screws holding the entire center console in place, it can slide forward and rotate such that it'll clear the e-brake. Alternately alternately, if you curl your fingers underneath the boot frame on the side facing the rear of the car, you can pop the darker gray smooth plastic part of the center console entirely off while leaving the whole center console screwed in.

SOURCE: Chev Cavalier 2003 only one rear turn/brake/hazard light

I have a 2002 Chev Cavalier that had the same exact problem. I replaced the bulb harness (purchased from a chevy dealership for around $5) which was fairly easy to do. I have had zero problems with it since.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1 and 2
The following procedure is a general procedure for console removal. You may have to modify or skip certain steps depending upon your vehicle.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the shift knob, floor compartment door and console trim plate.
  3. Remove the instrument panel accessory trim plate.
  4. Unfasten the retaining bolts, detach the connector, then remove the console door.

  1. Remove the seats, as outlined later in this section, in order to get to the lower rear screw(s) on the side trim panels.
  2. Remove the console side trim panels.
  3. If equipped, remove the switch pack housing with the switches.
  4. Remove the console compartment floor protector, bolt covers and bolts.
  5. Unfasten the screws mounting the console to the instrument panel and tunnel.
  6. Unclip the harness and accessory plug.
  7. Tag and detach all necessary electrical connectors.
  8. If necessary, remove any remaining retainers.
  9. Tilt the rear of the console up, then slide the front tab back out of the instrument panel and remove the console from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Position the console in the vehicle by placing the front tab of the console into the instrument panel slot, making sure to align the screw holes.
  2. Attach the electrical connectors as tagged during removal.
  3. The remaining of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the console retaining screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

SOURCE: how do I release the belt tension pully to replace serpentine belt

You can run down to your local auto parts store and buy a serp belt tool. Or you can take a 3/8 drive ratchet, locate the 3/8 square hole in your tensioner and put the ratchet in the hole. For more leverage I put a deep socket over the ratchet handle and put a long 3/8 extention in the deep socket. This will provide ample leverage and will save buying more tools you do not need. Simply move the tensioner to the direction that takes pressure off of the belt.

How to replace gear shift light bulb in a 2001 toyota echo

The center console piece around the floor shifter should normally be held in place with plastic clips ( some are held with screws ) and should just pop up with a gentle tug. The bulb can then be accessed for replacement

Gear shift will not move. I start engine, place foot on brake, then button on the side of shifter releases. But shifter will not budge. it stays in park.

Shift interlock solenoid not working and will not disengage parking lock, remove center console, locate shift solenoid, test it, if bad replace it. In the meantime you can use a zip lock tie to hold it in the disengaged position and your shifter should work.

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.

If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

I am trying to remove the center console of a 2003 chevy impala to install an after market radio. Can someone give me directions please?

There are 2 10mm bolts in the compartment hold of the center console that must be removed. Two similar 10 mm bolts must be removed at the front of the center console, near the driver's and passenger's lower legs. The top of the center console, where the shifter is located, snaps out. With this top piece removed, the cigarette and auxilary outlet can be disconnected. Four more bolts near the shifter bracket need to be removed, and then the console is free. Hope this helps someone. I needed to remove the center console to install a component for a car stereo.
