My 2003 Intrepid keeps dropping into limp mode more and more in the last 2 weeks. I changed out both speed sensors, reset the computer by disconnecting the neg. battery cable for about 15 minutes. Everything worked good for a about 2 days, now its getting worse. It pops out of gear sitting at a light and forces me to restart the car. I wonder if a tranny flush will clean out the solenoid packs and valve bodies?

I own a 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter since day one and recently i have experienced after the car gets warm the check engine light comes on and shortly after upon having to stop at a light the car will down shift hard just before coming to a stop. Once starting out the car sticks into second gear and will not come out until i stop the car and turn the ignition off and restart it. Once i restart it it is fine for a little while longer. I have already replaced the two speed sensors and the computer at a 600.00 cost and still no fix. PLEASE HELP

Flush out your transmission with the correct type fluid, Mopar ATF+4, and correct filter. Disconnect Negative cable, to reset computer, for at least 24 hours. Check grounding straps for PCM, ensure they are tight and clean.
This method worked on my 2003 Intrepid SE, 3.5L, Police Pkg car.
Good Luck!!

Code 1776 is the solenoid pack, located on the valve body, inside the transmission. It's pretty common on this transmission. You need to drop the pan, filter, and valve body to get to it. Part is around $300 and about 2.5 hours labour to do it. Plus New fluid, and filter. So it adds up to over $700, unless you do it yourself.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Intrepid going into limp mode after I put it on the ramps for an oil change. I replace both input and output sensors X2 (just in case we got a bad 1), complete tranny flush, changed the TCM, reset the PCM a million times, disconnected the battery cables for a week, the list goes on. 3 months and a drained bank account later, I had the TCM quick learned. I didn't have a problem for 1 1/2 years until I backed over a pretty high snow bank with 1 tire. Went into limp mode that night. I'm having it quick learned on Monday.

Have the vehicle scanned for codes, checked by a reputable transmission shop in your area.It could be electrical, solenoid block,TCM,input or output speed sensors, valve in the valvebody,or even an internal problem with the trans.

My 2002 dodge intrepid transmission shifts fine till it gets warm then it down shifts when coming to a stop and wont upshift till i turn the ignition off and restart what is the problem

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Y my 2001 dodge intrepid won't shift gears

Start with checking you transmission solenoid under the hood. These do go bad often. But also have you serviced the transmission regular this is vital to know. Speed sensors in the trans need to pick up movement also in order to know what to do these are called VSS sensors Vehicle Speed Sensors in these you have input and output. These should be removed and cleaned and tested for resistance to see if it is within range. If you need further help please ask Remember to rate my solution this is how i earn my achievements here on FixYa. Thanks in advance.

My check engine light came on, the transmission stopped shifting and my speedo didn`t work either. I replaced both speed sensors and it still doesn`t work, what else can I try. the car is a 2000 Dodge...

Did you change the Vehicle speed sensor or the wheel speed sensor?? The vehicle speed sensor is located on the side of the transmission..And its for the speedometer and shift pattern..If all good depending on what year, some have to be reprogrammed

How does the 97 dodge intrepid auto shift work?

when in auto shift mode you place gear selector in auto shift and as you drive you are in control of upshifting and down shifting, when you want to shift up you slide shifter to the right and to down shift you slide shifter to the left, but also know that the vehicle will up shift on its own if rps are to high and will not downshift all the way back to first, and try not to take off in higher gears that nwill burn the transmission

2002 Dodge Intrepid ES shift selector is stiff, difficult to move into position. Is this a linkage rebuild issue?

You have a shift cable. This cable may be getting a
little worn. One way to check it is, disconnect the
cable at the transmission and see if it is still stiff.
Look under the hood, just to the right of the brake
booster. You will see 2 cables that come through
the firewall, one is the throttle cable, it will go to the
right towards the center of the engine. The other is
the shift cable, it will go down to the transmission
linkage. Disconnect the cable there and see if it
shifts any easier. If not, replace the cable.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
