My 1999 Ford Escort ZX2 will Crank, but will not start. I have a new battery and the starter is fine. When it is cold, the car will not even crank. Otherwise it will crank but not start for a while. I have taken the car to repair shops and they can not find the problem, because the engine light is not on. They have confirmed that it is not the starter.

SOURCE: 2002 ford escort zx2 camshaft sensor fit a 99 zx2?

Yes, All the years of the ZX2 utilize the same engine. 1998-2003 are all the same except for ECU programing and the MAF wiring. You should not have a problem.

SOURCE: 1999 ford contour that wont crank

You mean wont CRANK or CRANKS but WONT RUN???? 4 cyl or V6 auto or manual trans????????? The 8th VIN digit would be most helpful as there are 4 different engines for that car. Its really cheaper to check items before you replace them. The starter should have a smaller BLACK wire that should have power on it when trying to crank the car. You say it wont crank, then check the neutral switch on the trans. Try putting it in neutral to start it. If it has a manual trans, the clutch switch on the pedal may be bad. There is a starter relay in the fuse box under the hood that powers the starter, does it click if you turn the key to start? if it does then the relay is at least trying to work, but doenst mean the contacts inside are good, If it does not click, then the neutral switch may be bad.Check the BLACK/YELLOW wire at the trans switch, if it has power on it, the switch may be bad, ground that (Black/Yellow)wire and see if it cranks. I dont know if there are any other relays in the fuse box that you can swap for the starter relay for test purposes.

If it has a manual transmission, check the clutch start switch on the clutch pedal support. If it has an automatic transmission it could be the transmission range sensor mounted on top of the transmission right side of the engine. In either case it could be the ignition switch (this is the switch you put the key in to start the car).

1999 ford escort zx2 cranks but won't start

As with any no-start issue, you will need to figure out if you have a problem with fuel pressure to the injectors, or spark to the plugs.
I would also check the computer for trouble codes.
Let me know what you find out.

How do i take off a starter to a 1999 ford escort zx2?

should be 2 or 3 bolts around the base of the starter nearest the engine block. Disconnect the battery and unbolt the wires from the starter and unbolt the starter. Installation is reverse.

Car will not crank sometimes unless you turn the key many times.

Check battery connections. Sometimes a weak connection will fail under very high loads like starting.

My 1999 Ford ZX2 won't turn over

sounds like the battery is way under power,or the starter motor is the wrong one count the number of teeth on the pinion 9 or 11.put battery on a trickle charge for at least a week to de sulphate the plates or a nice new one and put that on charge as well as often batterys are on the shelf for a long while and need a recharge ,but only a slow charger no booster as this can buckle the plates
