My 2003 Chevy Astro van will not blow out hot or cold air, except when it feels like it. Someone had replaced the alternator and screwed up my heat and cooling for the van
Check for a damaged or dis-connected vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold or throttle body that has intake manifold vacuum and runs over and down on the passenger side of the van to a usually black or grey round vacuum reservoir/cannister. There should be a manifold vacuum source line connected to the bottom of the round vacuum reservoir and also a small vacuum line running from the vacuum reservoir back into the fire-wall and the heater/AC controls. Also check for any loose wire connectors behind the battery.Check for a damaged or dis-connected vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold or throttle body that has intake manifold vacuum and runs over and down on the passenger side of the van to a usually black or grey round vacuum reservoir/cannister. Try to tap on the blower motor with the switch in the on position the motor is located on the passenger side close to the firewall if it kicks on you need a new blower motor

The driver's side vents were blowing out hot air, and everything else wasblowing cold. ... you'll literally have to restart your tahoe/yukon at every traffic light to keep cold air coming ... Driver/passenger air vents blow hot then cold when using A/C. Back to cold when you restart the vehicle. Upvote (35) ... 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe ... I have a 02 Tahoe ,and the heat system is working only on the ceiling side of the car when turn.
needs the water system back flushing out, heater being cold is its blocked up some time a few back flushes and forward flushes with a hose pipe should free up the dirt inside, same with the engine and radiator. there are meany videos on you tube to help you understand how to back flush you engie. but do the radiator and engine and heater separate so the muck does not go back into the engine.
I know on an astro van there is a heater valve under the hood on the passenger side. check the cables or vaccum lines going to the heater valve under the hood. If there is a module it will be mounted to the heater suit case under the right side of the dash
It sounds to me that you may have 2 problems. 1). Air Lock in the Heater Core. 2). Inactive Heat Damper in the Plenum.
But since you state that the Heater Hoses do not get warm that is indicative of an Air Lock in the Heater Core. This is a relatively simple fix. It is best performed COLD but requires a method of pressurizing the Cooling System. All reputable Auto Parts stores Sell and/or Rent Pumps that temporarily replace the Radiator Pressure Cap for Leak tests and curing Air Lock. The Collant Level must be filled FULL then pressurized and then loosening the Highest Heater Hose at the Firewall so that Air and a Small Amount of Coolant escapes. Once all the Air has escaped tighten the Heater Hose Clamp, remove the Pressure Pump, Restore the Collant Level to FULL, re-install the Pressure Cap and Start the Engine. As it Warms up you should be able to feel coolant running through the Heater Hoses and they should become warm.
If it is blowing hot air out of the defroster and not out of the heater vents then the door that directs the heat from the defroster isn't working properly it is blocking the heat from going to the heater vents. Also check the cold air door. It sounds like it isn't closing all the way to shut off the cold air and not letting the hot air pass.
when you turn on ac look for front ac clucth to be turning. if it is feel the lines up to the cowl if they are cold 40 degrees or so theres probably enough charge with the year of that vehicle it maybe low on charge ac systems will usally hold for at least 5 years.
This is something best done by a qualified repair shop . An yes it can have two different problems , not related ! Blower motors do go bad , or a control processor . Does it have manual or automatic HVAC . It would be to your benefit to have someone like this guy diagnose the problem . This is not for a rookie to try ! Diagnosing rear problems
