First push on the brake and listen for a click noise from the gearshift assembly. If you dont hear the noise, then the gearshift assembly lock is not disengaging. If you hear it and it still wont shift, then your linkage is bound somehow. Its likely to have nothing to do with your brake job, unless something was damaged when you did it. Hope this helps

Have somebody shift the car while you look under the hood, under the brake reservoir, there's a white plastic Ball shaped clip that attaches to the top of the transmission,at the shift assembly. It's easy to pop that off, especially if you spilled some brake fluid down there and you wiped it up without realizing the rag snagged it.

Saturn will not shift into gear

If the shifter won't move, you could have a problem with the brake switch or the solenoid that unlocks the shifter.

I have a 2000 Saturn ls2 that will not go into park. Can you tell me why? Every other gear works fine.

You probably have a linkage problem that needs to be addressed. For now, start your car in neutral, and instead of park use neutral and set the parking brake. Also turn your wheels toward the curb if you park on a hill just in case the parking brake fails

2008 Saturn Vue Stuck In Park. The car starts fine however when you try to shift out of park the shifter is locked up and won't budge. You have to restart the car multiple times to get the shifter...

these have a safety system so the shifter won`t go into any gear unless the brake is pushed(indicating someone sitting in the drivers seat),if the brake lights aren`t working this indicates that the fuse that operates the shift lock solenoid and brake lights is not working and needs replacing.check the fuses and replace the fuse and things will probably return to normal.

@aol.com2001 ls lincoln cant compress piston to allow for new pads

On the front you go buy a large C-Clamp
& use one old pad against the caliper piston

On the rear you need a tool to turn the parking
brake in while pushing the piston in

On the back you need to open the bleeder valve
to make it easier

You should be flushing your brake fluid on ALL
your vehicles every 2 years

You don't put on new pads without machining or
replacing the rotors & you have to remove ALL
rust from caliper & pad abutments & sliding surfaces
and put anti-seize on contact & sliding points

I checked my clamp --it is a craftsman 4" from
Sears Hardware

On the back you get the small cube from the auto parts
store & choose the side with the two smallest pins
& file flats on the outside of them to fit the caliper
piston. Don't think they make an exact tool for the LS

Ratchet up parking brake in back when done & push pedal
a couple times after beelding with engine running & a helper
to seat pads

On the back the piston notch goes up or the pads won't
go down

2001 lincoln ls will not shift out of park

Brake interlock, your foot needs to be on the brake to shift out of park. If you are doing that and you still can't shift then check all your fuses, the lock circuit may be out

Whining sound from front passenger side.

Check the condition of front disc brake pads, if they are in need of replacement a preset little metal arm starts rubbing the discs and will make a whining noise. It doesn't do any damage but it's irritating to listen to.
