I have a 1998 Ford Expedition with 200,000 miles and I want to replace the cabin filter as the air in the cabin smells stale when I turn on the system.I bought the filter for $20 and removed the cover plate underneath the glove compartment.There was an indentation in the plastic which was the size of the filter and was difficult to remove.When I removerd it forcibly I could see a filter towards the inside of the cabin-not the fire wall.IS THERE A DIAGRAM THAT WOULD SHOW WHAT THE MANUFACTURER DID? I am very hesitant to remove the heater and drain the system just to pull out the filter. Thank You ,Mark Jachniewicz

hey jack open the back door and look up top where the hinges are and that should be the one for the back and the front if it is not up under the hood where the wipers are then check up under the dash

There should either be a little button at the base of the headrest that you push, or a small hole in the rod part, with a hole in it. Push in the hole with a pen, or a small nail to release the headrest.

If you smell antifreeze it may be 3 possibilities: 1. you may have a leaking hose/hose connector , or water pump. 2. your heater core is bad and needs replaced. Unless you know what you are doing I would highly suggest taking to dealer for heater core replacement. The dash and steering colum has to be removed to get to the heater core. This is not an easy job believe me (about-900-1200 job). If you have your heater core replaced then also replace the climate control door. This is good preventative maintenance and also a a dollar saver. I would have a pressure check run on your radiator as a first thought. All you may have is a bad hose and that can easily be replaced.
