When driving our 06 mustang we hear a series of 4 dings, pause, then the dings again and no light flashes on the dash. It sort of dings like the sound when your seatbelt is not fastened, when it is. It does this in groups of three. Stops for about 30 minutes and does it again. Any ideas where to start looking for problems?

There is a fault in the system that needs sorting out soon!! Get a good Auto electrician to test the system as you could risk the airbag going off while you are driving. Get the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic system or an OBD2 scanner. This will give you an error code for more information on what the problem is.

Ok what is wrong is your idling is to low which is controlled but a ( Throttle Position Sensor Switch) buy one of these and your problems will be gone, The ding you hear is low oil pressure warning going off once the idling goes back up the oil pressure goes back to being good.

Service engine soon lamp and check engine lamp have a 16 pin connector under dash in drivers area most parts store can retrieve codes for you for free these codes are in several forms P series are powertrain codes (engine,transmission) B series codes are Body codes ( A/C,electrical windows mirrors) C series are Chassis codes (abs,transfer case, air ride) U series codes are Communication codes between all modules that need to share information..

Most likely reason is that the tail light fuse blew out. The dash lights have a seperate fuse, but it is wired in series with the tail lights, so that if the tail light fuse blows, the instrument cluster lights also go out. The dash lights going out is sort of a warning to let you know to check your tail lights

Are you sure is not 5 flashes with a short pause in between and then 5 more flashes? Code 55 indicates the end if the diagnosis.

The dinging from the dash is the Air bag system check. Check that the bulb in the dash isn't burned out. The stalling and spitting could be clogged converter. Check how much exhaust is coming out of the tail pipe when you rev it. The smoke could just be from a leaking valve cover gasket.

If you are hearing a series of 5 beeps, 5 beeps and then a pause and it repeats, the airbag light is burnt out, and there is an error that the LFC ( light Flash Code ) needs to report.

Pull the cluster, and replace the airbag light, and then pay attention to the LFC that will be given ( example, 1 flash short pause, 8 flashes, slightly longer pause, then repeat the 1-8 pattern again, jsut as an example ).

THE BUTTON ON THE THRESH HOLD OF DOOR BY HINDGES IS STUCK IN .OR CHECK FUSES MYBE BULB

turn the key to off position, then turn on and wait till the air bag starts to flash. count the first series then break then second series. There will be a pause then it will either flash a second code set or repeat same code. You can then call a sevice department or the chilton book will have a code breakdown for you. At this point you will have a better idea where to go.. PLEASE understand never ever ever use any testin equip ment not meant for this system or it can go off with the force of a 12 gauge shot gun in your face. This is one of the most sensitive systems on your car or truck and potentialy the most unforgiving. Know what your doing or take where it can be diagnosed under proper and saftied conditions. I have been working with these systems since they came out and they still cause me to pause and review the sevice procedures
