Its like it wanna crank up, but dont hold. a mechanic said that the fuel pump is out. if that be the case it wont start at all rite? sooo now my question is ....if its doing that could it just be the fuel filter?

Is this a carbed engine, that usually means mechanical fuel pump? Take fuel line loose from carb, aim into container, crank engine, does gas flow? If so, have to check float bowl in carb to see if any gas, if no gas, need a carb kit in my opinion.
I don't know liter size of engine? If fuel injected, let us know.
On pre-electric fuel pumps .. ie. mechanical fuel pumps that were cam-driven, fuel could find its way through a faulty pump/failing gasket into the engine block and oilways ... and end up in the crankcase.
You seem to have the same problem.
You don't say what sort of vehicle you have, however, with carbs that develop a fault, fuel can find its way down past the piston rings and into the crankcase.
Whether your car has a mechanical fuel pump and carburettors, or an electric pump/injection, the fuel finding its way into the crankcase is the problem.
Sort that fuel problem out and your vehicle will start.
First key on you should hear pump run a couple seconds if you think it's the pump have someone crank it over and another pound on the fuel tank this sometimes makes the pump motor start to run, if it does that may be enough for you to drive to a shop for a new fuel pump.
Dont understand! Is the motor tuning over but wont start. If this is the case it could be that the fuel pump is bad. you can have a pressure test run on the fuel system even if the car wont start.....hope this help and Please rate this post if it is helpful.
The system is self bleeding, just hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank it over for 5 seconds at a time until it starts. Make sure you have at least 3 gallons in the tank to properly prime the fuel pump.
If it cranks but won't start, you will need to find out if it has no spark to the plugs or no fuel to the injectors. In this case it could be a fuel pump or pump relay.
How are you diagnosing it looses spark ? Could be an issue with the Fuel Pump relay or the PATS system
If you get a crank no start, turn the key to the off position. Make
sure you can hear the fuel pump run ( in the fuel tank, by the fuel door
on the box ) by rolling down the window. Turn the key from off to run
and wait to hear the fuel pump cycle. At the same time the theft light
in the cluster should go out. Do both of those happen correctly ?
Try swapping the Trailer Tow adapter Reverse relay with the fuel pump relay. My '01 had cases of crank no start, which I attributed to not holding the speed pass away from the key correctly ( causing PATS to not be completed ) , and at ~ 34K miles the fuel pump relay went out.
Turning over and cranking are often the same thing, so Im not sure what your asking... Do you mean the car turns over but wont fire, or start? If thats the case and as you say the plugs are getting spark, then your problem is gonna be the fuel pump 99% of the time... Try this little trick, have a friend hit the fuel tank from under the car with a NON metalic hammer (ie a rubber or wooden mallet or chunk of solid wood etc) while your trying to start the engine. If the car fires up, then dont risk doing that trick again as it probably wont work twice, and get it to your mechanic to get a new fuel pump installed. If it doesnt work, (it really is a 50/50 thing) then get it towed and have the fuel pump changed as its still probably the problem...
