Mazda 3 (2006) Information Display panel is blank

The display screen above the radio has gone blank. The radio and everything else on the dash seems to be working ... just no display for functions of the radio ... clock and the like. I can't determine if it has a separate fuse or it's just died. Any ideas?

My information display panel is also blank, though the radio and CD player work fine

  • Anonymous Aug 10, 2008

    I have exact same problem...wtf

  • jakewoo24 Sep 06, 2008

I have the same thing, my 2005 Mazda 6 the data screen is almost completly gone...i can kind of see the time but thats it. Has anybody had any luck with it?

  • kloj21 Oct 14, 2008

I'm presently have this problem with my 2006 Mazda 3 as well and since my car isn't under warranty anymore, my dealer has asked me to shell out a calm US 900.00 and labour isn't included as yet.

I have started to search in Japan for one. Any idea on the price of the unit? I just wonder since I'm in Barbados and they're the sole distributor that they are not taking me for a ride. No pun intended.

    Any idea guys on price?

  • ralloh989 Oct 17, 2008

It was the display unit for sure. Fortunately it was just barely under warranty. Have no idea what the price would have been if I had to buy it. Good thing is .. if you have to buy one it's extremely easy to remove and install.

  • Anonymous Nov 06, 2008

I just got a call from the dealer and they want to replace my "Information Display" that's having these same symptoms (blank, but everything is functional in the console). They said they could order the part for $283 but didn't quote the labor. Does anyone know of an outside source for this part?

  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2008

I have almost the same problem. The last year 2007, the display was flickering for about one month then came back to normal. Now it's flickering again.

  • Anonymous Dec 23, 2008

Mine just went completely blank today. It was fine this morning, but completely dead when I left work. The stereo works just fine, there's just no display. I checked the manual, hoping there'd be a fuse for the display. I guess that's not it. My car's still under warranty, so I guess I'd better take care of this problem soon. Thanks to everyone here for the info.

OMG I don't know if anyone follows this link it's pretty old but my display went blank as well. I pulled the fuse and found a gnat!! I switched it with the horn anyway and it's all GOOD! I love the internet!!!

  • sparkles14 Mar 18, 2011

Do you know where the fuse is? I'm so lost

  • appleguy555 Mar 26, 2011

Thank you so much! You just saved me so much time. Sparkles in regards to the fuse, just look for it in the fuse box under the hood. It's in the lower right corner if you are looking from the perspective of the drivers seat.

  • HeidiKlum Apr 05, 2011

Unbelievable... same story...Dealer quote to fix about $850... followed your instructions and VOILA! Thank you so much! :-)

My wifes car lost the display , radio , interior lights , seatbelt dashlight and trip meter kept resetting . Started checking fuses , all were good , I noticed the room fuse seemed to be somewhat stuck but didn't appear to be burnt or corroded when I did pull it out , the fuse itself was fine but I was getting inconsistant voltage on the fuse terminal itself on my DMM . Just from the bit of tinkering I done there I could see the green corrosion gathering underneath that corner of the junction box . I took the junction box apart and all I can say is YUCK !!! There is a terminal strip I will call it which has the large tab for the 40 amp fuse and then all the terminals for the mini fuses with the room fuse being the last terminal on the strip . That entire strip from one end to the other was nothing but green corrosion around it . I didn't want to even go near it as my wife relies on this car for work so I carefully removed the output terminal for the room fuse and mated it up with an usused live terminal in the box as a temporary fix , I am now on a hunt for another box . Unfortunately the terminal strips aren't available by themselves according to the dealer .

Go taterhead 3e! You are the hero. My info panel went blank on my 2010 Mazda 3. I pulled out the ROOM fuse and put back in. It worked! Simple. Thank you.

  • Nadev Aug 26, 2011

Taking the Room15a fuse out and clean it off and putting it back in fixed this for me. Yeah internet!

switched the fog light fuse with the room fuse. Both work great. Thanks

  • godot Sep 07, 2013

yep that works perfectly! the 15a room fuse is in the engine fuse panel beside the battery not the fuse box under the glove box, just in ase anyone misses that detail thank you!

  • William M
    William M Jan 24, 2015

remove fuse wait about 1 minute and put back in. I think that some that the removal didnt work but taking loose battery terminal did may not have waited long enough before reinstalling fuse.

  • Melissa Nov 15, 2015

Thank you! I tried today and it worked! :-)

That really works...the fuse that controls the Information display power is the one labelled "ROOM" (15Amp). It is located under the hood in the engine fuses.

I didnt even replace mine, I simply scraped off the dirt/rust from the metal portion and reinserted it. If this doesnt work, test the ROOM port with a functional fuse switch (I used the one labelled HORN, 15amp). If it works with the switch, you have a good part, but need a new fuse.

Free solution to an expensive problem...if you dont know whats wrong.

A big thanks for taterhead 3e and buttrrrreeed, I resolved my mazda3 display issue with your solutions. I just switched the ROOM fuse with the horn fuse, and the display issue is gone. Also, I tested the horn, and it's working fine.

The fuse exchange did not work for me... but disconnecting/reconnecting the battery did... the display had been 'fluttering' for several weeks - was told display had to be replaced (estimated $850). Went to several sites for some insight - and the battery routine worked.

  • akilian May 25, 2011

Thanks a bunch, Taterhead! I just the fuse out and put it right back in and it fixed the issue. Saved me a ton of money and I want to say thanks!

Yes Yes Yes!!! After reading the suggestion and replacing my Room (15amp) fuse with the horn fuse my display plannel is working again. Thank you for posting this. The dealer wanted to charge me $600.00 for the part plus labor. I fixed it in two minutes for free.. I am a happy Mazda driver again.

I had the same problem after having my car serviced. Two different dealerships agreed the display needed to be replaced. It was going to cost 850.00. I decided to wait and low and behold replaced/upgraded my battery and the display came back on. Two dealerships were completely wrong. I have lost faith in them! I had checked all my fuses also.

Taterhead 3e you are the MAN! My 2006 Mazda 3 information display was belly up. Yahooed a search and here I am, you've been to this movie before. I snatched that 15A fuse outta the Room 15A slot, buffed er up and walla the display is back. I did notice that the fuse legs were bent a little indicating the factory might of just jammed it into the slot any old way with any care for installation. I straighten them out and I'm now up and running. Thanks dude, you saved me some bucks for a nasty ole dealer, you are the MAN!

I was driving my 2006 Mazda 3 hatchback earlier today and it was fine when I parked. But after two hours, when I got back to my car, the display was dark. All the buttons are lighted, my dashboard was fine, and I could still listen to the radio and switch stations. I tried using a brand new 15A fuse in place of the old room fuse, but that didn't work. Instead, switching the horn fuse and the room fuse brought my display back. Thanks for all the tips!

Great, yesterday our radio and cd player suddenly stopped showing on the display on our 2006 Mazda 3, couldn't get it to come on or to get any audio working, did the replacing the room 15a fuse with horn fuse, reset the code number on the display as per the manual and bingo back to having an audio system. Thanks for the info and suggestions on this site, problem solved with no expensive trip to a dealer!!

I came up to this problem just today.. and driving back home all i could think was how much it was going to be to fix it myself or by the dealer. I decided to do a search to see if anyone has ran into the same situation. All i have to say is Thank YOU!!!

I knew there had to be a fuse for that part of the cicuit. I checked fuse (room 15A) in the engine compartment. it seemed find to me so I decided to disconnect the Battery and connect it back again. Turned the ignition and MAGIC its working..LOL

I had the same flickering problem with display panel for about 2 months....BUT...one evening, I parked in an interior parking for a couple of hours and it magically worked again (the dealer was going to charge me 500$ + labor to change it, but thankfully ,I decided to wait!!!)...I'm assuming the higher humidity in the parking must of "unstuck" something!....just to let you know that if this happens to you (and you warrenty is up) it gives you an extra argument....oubviously their technology is not so reliable and we shouldn't have to pay for these things!

I had the same problem with my 2006 Mazda 3 GT about a year ago, the Information Display went blank and everything works. The problem is the "Information Display" unit, if your car is still under warranty, the dealer will replace the Information Display unit for free. I am not sure how much it cost if you are out of warranty. Hope this will help.

The small display screen is renowned for this fault. Press on the plastic surround/bezel and see if the display shows any sign of life. It appears to be either a soldered joint or circuit board problem. I would doubt that replacing the radio will fix the fault, and at a bet, buying a replacement unit will be expensive and probably only result in the fault returning. Never know - there may be someone who has managed to work out a permanent fix for it...

95 mazda millenia a/c climate control, clock, and outside temp dis

i would just get a used one off ebay. usually you can find the dash with the a/c amp(pushbuttons) and the display for around 40 bucks. they are separate units(display and amp), and are mounted with screws that go into the back of the dash panel. the dash panel is easy to remove, there are 2 anchor screws on either side of the steering column. right side is under a plastic cover, the other is under the rheostat, just carefully pry them out, and you will see the screws. then the whole dash part pops out. you will need to disconnect the harness's that plug into the back of the amp, then it all comes free. it might help to put the steering wheel in the lowest position.
