When I took out the glove box to replaced the cabin air filter, I noticed that when the door that opens for recycled air and closes for fresh air would close for fresh air setting it would close and then pop back up an inch or so over and over again corresponding to the clicking noise I was hearing. Any easy do-it-yourself solutions for this problem?
The problem is the vent door actuater you can get it at your local parts house i got it at orileys auto parts
If you are so inclined, you can remove and disassemble the actuator - where you'll find a gear inside with a couple broken off teeth. Just pull the gear off its shaft and rotate a half turn... and reinstall. Reassemble the whole thing and voila! Just like new... at least until those teeth break. WARNING... it helps to have smaller hands to get up in there and you will have to acquire just the right wrench (5/32", I think) to fit the screws on the actuator. This can all be done through the glovebox opening with some patience, despite what the official repair manual says. Good luck, KRK
Uhh... I know the Vibe is all metric and it is probably a 6mm hex, but I think my 6pt 5/32 worked... I do remember that I used an extended socket and gripped it with my fingers b/c there is not clearance for a socket handle on the top screw. KRK
The part is called a Blend Door Actuator. Open and remove the glove box to access it. I never could get it to stop hitting the broken gear teeth, so had to replace it. Regular parts stores (O'Reilly's and Advance) don't carry it any more, possibly because Pontiac is out of production now. Had to purchase it at the dealer. $86.06 plus tax. Installed perfectly and fixed the problem.

Without replacement just pull the connector to the actuator.

I removed the rotary actuator from the left side of the air box after removing the glovebox. There are two screws holding it in. You will need a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 5.5mm socket for the lower screw and a 5.5mm offset box end wrench (easiest) for the upper. Warning: the upper screw will drive you nuts getting it out! It can't be seen but you can feel it. Up-plug the actuator by carefully un-latching the plug assembly with a small screwdriver. Remove the whole assembly. It just slides on the shaft that operates the door.
The problem is inside the actuator. The gears have weak teeth and have probably been stripped of a couple. GENTLY pry the actuator open. There are several assembly snaps that you'll need to be careful not to break off or you will be gluing the halves back together as i did.
The large gear (final output gear) will be missing teeth. Remove it and index the gear 180 degrees re-engaging some fresh teeth to the driver (pinion) gear. If you're off a few teeth in either direction, It won't matter. The motor shuts off with a resistance switch during operation. Re assemble and you're good to go. (At least until they wear out). I saved about $300 over having the dealer replace the motor/actuator.
Eventually, the motor assembly will need replacing. But at least it's a DIY job. Still saving $$$.

The Antilock Brake Hydraulic Control Unit is directly under the air cleaner box. Is your Antilock Brake light coming on?

OMG. I replaced the battery in my 06 G6 and had the same problem. the windows would not roll up or down how they did before. I read the answers on here and it does work. Hold up the window switch for ten seconds and it resets. You will have to do it to each window. Worked great. Thanks

Also have 2005 Vibe. Flapping noise, pulsing air, started 3 weeks ago. Stops when I push the recirculate air button. Starts when I unselect the recirc.
I have an 04 vibe and I have the same problem. Has anyone been successfully able to fix this? I've googled and it seems others are having the same problem as well.

yep, I think I do. My '03 does the same thing when the recirculation button is not depressed, allowing fresh air into the cabin. I presume the clicking is the motor trying to grab and swing the vent doors to allow the fresh air in, and it is not catching the plastic properly. I now have to leave the button on inside air to avoid having the loud clicking noise. See if it goes away once you press the button
