1978 Dodge Motorhome with 440 engine

I have a 1978 Dodge 24' motorhome and has been parked over the winter. When I started a couple days ago there was no oil pressure. I checked the sending unit and pulled it and cranked engine over and have no oil there at all. I was told that this motor has external oil pump and was wondering where it might be located?

I talked to a local mechanic and he thought it had lost it's prime. The oil pump was on the outside of lower block on drivers side. I took it off and he suggested packing as full as you could with lithium grease and tting back together. I did this and it worked.

i have seen this problem on many dodge motorhomes , does the air cleaner have the electric device on it? if it does i suggest reverting the engine back to the old style distributor that does not require it as those tend to go out and cause a lot of problems,it is a fairly easy solution if you are mechanicaly inclined and you wont see many problems with the electrical system of the engine afterwards.the hardest part of this solution is finding 1 of the older style distributors

Hi, do you have the smog diagram for a 1973-440 motorhome.? thank you

73 was an awful year for smog devices.
You could just look at any 1973 Dodge diagram, because a motorhome is no different.
But my advice is to take all smog stuff off. It did not work well in 73, and harms engine. You don't have to test anyway.
