Theres a sensor in the middle of the dash by the front windshield that detects sunlight and triggers the automatic headlights. The main headlights and daytime running lights might be on a different circuit, in which case they daytime running lamps would turn off at night and the main headlights would turn on, indicating the main headlights arent working and the daytime running lamps are working as intended.
I would check all the fuses related to headlights, check the bulbs and check the switch, then last the light sensor on the dash.
There is a microprocessor in the instrument cluster that grounds the DRL relay - do you know if the relay has power from the headlight fuses and is being grounded by the processor ?
Have you tried checking relays? if you find a relay related to parking lights, try swapping it with a relay of the same number if there is one in the panel. also have you check your DRL (daytime running lights) fuse relay? there are generally multiple locations for fuse/relay panels.
Dash lights were falsing ? I assume you mean pulsing .
driving lights come on ? daytime running lights or park lamps ,does the vehicle have daytime running lamps . Daytime running lamps module .
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Module (Headlamp Auto Control Module)
Mounted behind the radio and the HVAC control, left of the instrument panel compartment.
Well...lets start with the obvious. Check fuses and NEVER piggyback any stereo or security stuff into their fuses...you dont want the lights to shut down during a night drive!! Check under the hood for a relay center...also has some fuses there as well.
The Daytime Running Lamps are a "straight through wiring configuration". Doubt it even goes through a headlight switch at all. But the regular lights do. Unless you've worked on the front of the car and forgot to plug the headlights back in, do this... Turn the light switch on...looking at the instrument cluster , can you make the high-beam-indicator light come on? As you rotate the headlight switch knob...does the instrument panel lights brighten or dim? You probably have a faulty headlight switch...auto stores have them...they simply plug in.
did you try removing the DRL fuse to disable the daytime running lights, and double check your bulbs and fuses for the regular headlights? I'm not much of a mechanic but I'll take that fuse box before messing with anything else.
