I have a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT 4.7 that has been overheating. It overheats at Highway speeds about 60+ and then it cools down when I start to slow down. Also it overheats faster when I run the AC or the heat. I have already changed out my radiator twice as well as the upper radiator hose and cap. It is still showing this behavior. Any suggestions?

Check if fans are coming on and if they are they should blow into the motor, if they don't just change the cable position, positive and negative.

I currently am having the same issue. I have traced the issue back to the fans. The fans would not kick on so i let it run to almost overheating temperature, and checked the fans.... nothing was working. I slammed the hood to test a wild hair idea that one of the wires or the fans wasnt getting power. When i slammed the hood, The fans kicked on and the temp. dropped. So now its on to wire chasing.

SOURCE: 98 dodge dakota slt 318. no heat, low operating temp

First thing first, turn off the engine wait for 15 - 20 mints, open the radiator cap and fill it up to the top then start the engine and see if it needs more water adn add as needed, then wait till you ca see the water circulating in the radiator now instead of corculating if it starts boiling out shut the engine replace the thermostat and do the whole thing again.

unless there is water in the engine the gauge will not be able to show the actual temp of the engine, so always malke sure you have water / antifreeze

if it is check to be sure the auxiliary fan comes on when you turn the a/c on!!!
if thats ok then it's probably your fan clutch!!!

Have a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4 4.7 engine started leaking some kind of fluid i think it's coolant not sure

Engine coolant is normally green or pink, and smells sweet.

Engine oil and transmission fluid is various shades of straw colour to brown to black, and often smells burned.

But the easy way is just to check all the levels.

On top of those you also have brake fluid and power steering fluid. Get a good flashlight and look in the engine bay for evidence.

Why does car run hot, not all the time but 60% of the time, and theres no leak.

The most common symptom of a failed thermostat is overheating at highway speeds. Your engine may be able to stay cool at low speeds because it's not working that hard, be sure coolant is ok! Good-day! the thermostat is sticking thats what it sounds like to me. its not opening properly.

Overheating

Need more input. If it over heats all the time, you could have a bad thermostat,, collapsed hose, stopped up radiator or radiator low on water. If it overheats at slow speeds but cools down when you ge to highway speeds, you may have a problem with th the fans and/or sensors.

2004 overheating at highway speeds

Check rad cap & check your rad hoses for one that may feel soft & collapsing & restricting flow under higher speeds. Sometimes you can see it **** in when you rev engine in park. Especially lower hose.

2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 3.9 engine overheating

Check your rad hoses. They will tend to collapse (**** in) & cut down on flow at highway speeds, more than city, due to increased demand & flow on cooling system. If they don't feel relatively stiff, I'd change them. You might even see them **** in while sitting and revving the engine a bit.
