SOURCE: 93 honda civic ex sputtered and died while driving
Is there any white smoke coming out the exhaust? Sounds like the same problem my friend had when he warped his head on his 91 civic. Any overheating at all? Otherwise another guess would be maybe a bad catalitic converter that clogged up. Hope this helps any, good luck

adjust your carb, the 2 screws on each side of the carb adjust so you can get the car to idle correctly, also check your distributor

Sounds like your starter or the wiring leading to it has shorted out. Have the starter tested first.

SOURCE: i smell gas when i crank up
This sounds like a choke problem or a fuel problem. The gas smell is coming out of your exhaust pipe. It has too much fuel for the engine to burn until it has time to clean the cylinders out a little by spinning it over for a longer period of time then you will get black smoke and a raw gas smell when it does start. Many things can contribute to this condition. The engine computer is controlling the amount of air and fuel that the engine gets. So I would begin there. With a diagnostic test. Also look at the spark control and the air intake system to make shure it is not stopped up
