1992 F250 460 engine, AOD trans, 84000, miles.....Starting off from a dead stop, then within the first 5 to 8 mph, the tranny sometimes will give a lurch or clunk or something, then go into gear. It only happens from a dead stop, and then, only sometimes. Never when I am moving and have to shift up or down. A tranny guy told me to drop the pan and change fluid and filter. Also, while it is opened, to check for any broken springs. He said that there is a short but very stiff spring that helps in shifting and is notorious for breaking. Would that be true and if so, where can I get a new one?

Your transmission fluid contain water,thats why the colour of the fluid changed to pink.And of such the clutch is slipping causing the engine to reve up before shifting - Check transmission cooler.

Sounds like youi may have a few serious problems going on to have that kind of back lash occuring at higher speeds. I have experiance with low spped clunks on Bronkos and your type of vech being a car dealer. One you might try for low speed clunk on take off and braking at stop likts just completeing a stop? Pull the drive shaft and lubricate the splin - two check your leaf springs for weakness and wore bushings - take a look at your shocks - three u bolts holding springs to rear axle housing may be letting the axle housing actually dip or tweak or all those thing in combination - now you may have some serious slop in the pig - transfer case may be causing that clunk - as far as high spped clunk and activity you have a serous problem and you just might drop the transferr case have an accident fliping over..............Mike South Bend Indiana don't just keep driving and making problem worst...........

try changing the transmission filter once they get clogged they will act like that.

I would say to check the timing it may be retarded which would lessen the power. also you didnt say if it miss fires there could be a number of causes for the lack of power.
