I had a serious lack of power on kickdown then the computer displayed EPC (electroic power control) 'return to workshop'.
when i switched the engine off then back on again the computer had cleared but when i went over 2000 revs it went back into epc mode again.
does anybody know what can cause this or how i can fix it.????????????????

There can be an array of problems that can illuminate the EPC lamp on S-Class 220. A few of the most common faults with these are : HFM sensor, turbo or blocked cats. the best way to check the cats are the remove them and tap them on the ground and if dust falls out then the cats are damaged, if OK, you may have to plug into a diagnostic machine.

after driving for about 5 minutes the kick down stops working and the engine will not go over 3000rpm even in neutral. If I stop and restart the engine everything is fine for another 5 minutes. Mercedes have changed the Air Mass system, cat converters and fuel filters but problem is still there.
