SOURCE: 1993 Isuzu Rodeo engine tick

a very common problem with these engines is a clicking sound in the engine, it can be a slight annoying click, to a loud knocking sound. I end result is usually the same, replace your timing belt and tensioner. I researched this problem when i bought mine, and it was knocking. i replaced the timing belt, (which was loose) and actually took the tensioner apart and cleaned it (not recommended for the mechanically challenged). new tensioners may be tought to find. when i put it all back together, it ran smooth and quiet.

SOURCE: engine noises

I definitely agree with badmartian thats the same exact thing my trooper does. Our ticking was loud and obnoxious by the way embarassing when going through parking lots. Anyways I did some research and was thinking of a valve adjustment but cant since troopers have hydraulic lifters so the best way was to try to clean the gunk off these things. What I did was put heavier oil in the car 20w-50 but you can go with 10w-30 if your not to sure. Then add a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabalizer which runs around 7-8 dollars a bottle and a high mileage oil filter and that will seriously stop the ticking well it did for me for around 2000 miles and come back which means another oil change. Or you could do what I do and add another bottle of oil stabalizer not lucas maybe a smaller bottle like STP runs about 1-2 dollars and that should run your oil a bit longer. But yea when you change oil I suggest you adding Lucas Oil Stabalizer works great for me Im still using it and its cheap and you get alot of it for half the price of other ones. So yea good luck

SOURCE: I had the valve cover gasket changed on my 1996

on a v6 ? Low on oil? rear cam plugs leaking? The lifters are on the end of the rocker arms and may get clogged. I have had some luck running 0w30 mobil synthetic for about a week or so with a new oil filter [Not a fram filter] and after that put 10w30 synthetic oil back in and a new filter. Check for oil leaking at other locations. If the noise is at the front of engine near water pump it may be the hydraulic timing belt tensioner.

Not sure if there is a question here or not. If the pressure is always below 40 and you are hearing engine noise, chances are the oil pressure really is low. You could replace the sending unit or use a mechanical gauge to verify.

A loud ticking noise?

No I would not chase to the pistons, these vehicle were very comon in creating HLA noise hydraulic lash adjusting valves, meaning the valves pump up with oil as the oil gets thinner they dont pump up as fast and create a very loud ticking noise, I would not express a great concern over simplicity, dodge was famous for this, they really were.

That ticking your hearing is most likely a valve lifter or tappet that is dirty or failing. At low RPM the oil pressure is lower, as you increase the engine speed the oil pressure rises; with this the lifter sees more oil pressure too and it fills fully with oil thus the ticking stops. You may be able to fluch the oil system in hopes of cleaning out any debris; my gut says the lifter is beginning to fail and should be replaced. If you have the ability and tools this is something you can do in your garage; pick up a manual and review the procedure before tearing into the engine.
I hope this may have helped,

Loud ticking noise

Ticking is generally associated with a valvetrain problem but may be caused by low oil level or pressure. Noise is in the upper half of the engine. Knocking is from low oil pressure and is caused by worn bearings causing pressure loss. Knocking is the worse of both conditions (means overhaul or engine replacement.) Ticking needs to be checked for it's cause...if cause is low oil pressure, remember...oil pumps don't cause low oil pressure, pressure will lost if bearings are worn or pump inlet screen is plugged with carbon.

Engine knocks 3.2 isuzu rodeo 2000 ? help

You don't say how many miles or give a service history, but, that said I would check the timing belt and tensioner. When tensioner goes bad is often is reported as a loud knock or tick. Usually most evident at low RPMs. Another low cost try is to use a can of seafoam in the oil now, run it a few miles, then change it for a high detergent, low viscousity oil and drive it a while to see if the lifters clean up. engine tick is very common, generally due to lifters oil passages getting sludged up a little for 2nd gen 3.2l's

Its not a rod this is a common problem its your valves the best thing i have found is to use vavoline maxlife 5/30 high millage oil a can of six cylinder restore and a fram high millage oil filter. you will be amazed at how quick this remedy's your problem . Plus the car will tell you when your with in a thousand miles of oil change when the tick comes back time to do oil change. this will cost you around 30 dollars if you do it your self or 58 art wal mart. and for the other guy he deserves a bad rating. insert rasberry
