Intermittent activity is a sign that the clock is dying. This is a very common issue with Pathfinder clocks, unfortunately. They were manufactured pretty poorly. If you want to have it repaired with a lifetime guarantee, please check out www.autoclockrepair.com. All the info is there on how to remove the clock. Drop me a note if you have any questions, thanks!
My Camry 2004 began to get progressively dimmer until it died. To repair the clock do the following.
1.Take off the clock/cd panel by gently wedging the clips with a screw driver.
2.Remove the 2 cables -Clock (large plug in middle) and overspeed warning ( small plug on side)and pull out the clock panel.
3.Unscrew the two large screws on each side and pull out the clock section.
4.Disassemble the clock assembly by first removing the six special head screws and then unclipping it.
5.You will then see the circuit board. If you turn the ignition to accessories and gently push on the circuit board near the small rectangular parts with 123 on them at the left end of the board you will find it lights up.
6.Remove the 2 small screws and unclip it by pushing the 2 white clips on each side and gently lifting it out.
7. The grommets on the board lose contact with the circuit board. If you get a small nail just a little larger than the holes and widen the grommets gently hitting the nail head and allowing the pointy end to expand the holes a very small amount they will make contact again. Also I heated each grommet with a soldering iron and squeezed each grommet with multigrip pliers.
9.Reassemble the clock and put it back. My clock then worked like new.
10.NOTE: The key antenna is on the clock circuit board so you will need to open the doors manually with the key while it is removed.
The clocks in these older Pathfinders are notorious for giving an intermittent or dead display. The clock can be easily removed and inexpensively repaired at www.subaru-clock.com. If you need tips on removal of the clock, he can help with that, too.
