Driving down the road. steering wheele starts to vibrate so bad it almost jerks it out of your hands. If pull over and stop and then start again it quits. It doesn't happen all the time. sometimes will go days or weeks without problem. Getting more frequent. Had tires balanced but doesn't seem to help. In fact it seems to be worse now.

If by "jerking," you mean misfiring, you need a tune-up. If by "jerking" you mean vibrating, you likely have a worn CV joint or bad tire.

Seems to me that you have a hub bearing and/or cv axle gone bad. Did the ABS light come on?

steering idler sounds like its worn, on the steering you will see a link that goes from the steering arm just before the tracking, looks like a swing, it attaches to the body shell and has a bolt and rubber innards, this dampens down the vibration on the longest arm to the wheel so on right hand drive its on left wheel on left hand drives its on the right side, should not have a lot of play in it but should move left to right depending on steering position. cirb clipping wears them out quicker and so does pot holes in the road.

HAVE THEM CHECK ALL MOTOR MOUNTS OR FOR A TPS SENSOR OR IDLE CONTROL VALVE OK

if you feel the pulsation in brake pedal when stopping. its a warped brake rotor thats causing it. for bad cv joint symtoms--- Unusual noises when making turns. As you are driving on the road and you make a turn at the corner, if you start hearing unusual sounds coming from under the car then this is one of the symptoms of a bad CV joint. These noises will sound like something is clicking beneath the car every time you turn the steering wheel. Evidence of a damaged boot. Steering wheel feels heavier. The steering wheel will start to feel tighter and heavier and you can hardly make simple turns to the left or right. In severe cases you might even feel heavy vibrations like you are driving down a rocky road.

it sounds like the front tires need balancing.if you drive the truck slowly(creeping down the road at about 5mph)and lightly holding the steering wheel do you feel the steering wheel moving back and forth.this could indicate a bad belt in a tire where as a wheel imbalance won`t show up at this low of a speed,but a bad belt will.also have the front end checked for worn front end components and wheel bearings,this can cause a bad shake too.

Well - my steering was acting up too and I had just received something from GM to say that there may be a problem but don't bring the vehicle in unless it is giving you problems. I would be driving along and all of a sudden the steering wheel get's "Heavy" feeling and I'm not sure if it will stop steering all together. So I took it in and was told that the steering column needs to be replaced. So they order the parts - takes over 1 week to come in and they do the work. The bill was $435.00 and GM did cover it. However I am still having the problem and the other day - 2 days after having it "fixed" I was driving down the highway and the steering wheel starting jerking around in my hand and the whole care was vibrating. I pulled over and got out to check my tires to see if I had a flat. I waited a few minutes - got back in and started to drive again and it was fine. The steering is still acting up and now after reading all this stuff here I am worried about driving it anywhere. I have a son in Special Olympics and we have to drive 60 km. each week on the highway to go swimming. Yikes - is this car safe to drive!! I called my dealer to tell him my problems and I am hoping that it acts up when I can drive it in there so that they can see what it's doing. This is crazy!!

if it were the rotors it only happens when braking take in have them turn rotors see what happens good luck

check badly worn frt tire,bent wheel rim,loose wheel rim,frt tires may need te be rebalance
