2003 Sonata drivers side exterior door handles paint is peeling, the passenger side doors are rarely used & are fine for now. Peeling started approx. in 2008, two years ago. Since it is not a safety problem, will Hyundai replace them a no cost? I did have my interior handles replaced last year when the recall notice was sent out.

SOURCE: paint peeling on my used 2002 sonata

the dealer won't help you without getting paid. unfortunately, no one will. if you need to fix the paint, take it to a paint or body shop. it will cost you though.
if you're into doing it yourself, and it's not peeling in a big area, you can get some touch up paint that matches and try it yourself. i don't reccomend this for any area bigger than two hands though, it takes practice to look right.

the problem is sometimes hyundai's bonding agent (chemicals that stick the paint to the surface) doesn't work as well as it should. most bonds are harder on plastic, hyundai cars have trouble keeping their paint on the door handles, too.

Where is the interior trim code located on a 2009 sonata?

There are a few labels & a plate on the driver's door "B" pillar (below the door latch bolt). The black plate will give you two different paint codes. One for Interior and another for Exterior.

1997 buick park ave 4 door right front door handle won,t work from the outside

Order the exterior door handle AND the clip that attaches the rod to the exterior handle from your local dealership ( any part in the salvage yard will have at least as much wear as the one U are replacing ) Also order a can of touch up paint matching your car. After you have the parts and have painted the new exterior handle, roll down the window and remove the interior door panel. ( instructions have been posted at 'replace door lock buttom' ) Two nuts, one on each side, hold the broken handle in place and must be removed ( DON'T loose them ). Loosen the rod from the clip at the top to allow a bit more room, But take note on the way it is attached ( you will need to reattach the rod to new handle ) To install new mechanism put the new clip on the rod, carefully place the gasket and the new handle in place and install nuts to secure. Test the door handle and make sure it works. Reinstall interior door panel.

Diagram for replacing exterior door handles

ok. first u remove the door panel(s), with the window rolled up, u will be able to see the back side of the exterior door handle. there will be three bolts, they are size 10metric. there is also a rod attached to the handle held in place by a plastic clip, remove the rod, then remove the three bolts. from the outside remove the exterior door handle being careful not to scratch painted surface. Repeat for the other door(s). Repeat this for installation.

Replace exterior driver door handle

If you remove the inner door panel of the door there will be plastic weather shield covering most of the door. Use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the weather shield up and slowly peel it away. There will be 2 (10mm I believe) bolts on the inside of the door panel to release the handle (have someone catch it from the other side). To re-install simply connect he handle rod and 2 bolts then place the door panel back on and your done. A word of advice is be gentle with the door panel so not to damage the door pins or crack the plastic. Taking your time can be fun when learning a car ;).
