SOURCE: 1982 G30 Chevy Van power steering fluid

Find the power steering pump. The fluid goes in the top of the pump. Look for a twist off cap that has a measuring stick attached to the under side, when you take it off. Make sure you use the correct type of fuild for YOUR kind of vehicle. There are diffrent types for different makes of vehicles. Don't OVERFILL the pump.

If vehicle was left outside or in an unheated garage, there is a strong possibility that condensation has contaminated your fuel. Easiest way to check is to remove fuel filter and pour contents into a glass jar. If you see two different layers of liquid in the jar, the bottom part is water. Replace with new filter and drop the tank. Remove sending unit. pour contents into a large container and clean out inside with clean dry rags. Remember, fuel is dangerous to work with and fumes travel pretty far on the ground. So, no open flames electrical stuff, cigarettes etc for a good perimeter around work area. Generally, you can re-use top 3/4 of fuel you removed by syphon. Don't use remainder in your vehicle. Part can be used for lawnmower etc as long as you only take the part above the water line.

SOURCE: 2000 Chevy Prizm Lsi 4-speed auto trans. problems

That does sound like a linkage adjustment problem.

If that does not work, I'd try a fluid change and filter. But your diagnostics with pulling on the gear shifter is a pretty good indication of a linkage problem.

SOURCE: the speedometer stop working on my 1982 chevy g30 van.

that would be the first plavce i checked and the cable runs from the transmission to the dash and its a real hassle to get to and install I would get a chilton manual to show you how to get to the connections the easiest way, you can also get a repair manual at your local library

Testimonial: "Thanks, i'll get a repair manual and go from there."

SOURCE: i have a chevy 93 astro van my transmission won't

If the van is an all power, Have your alternator checked. DO NOT remove battery cable while running to check alternator. You definitely will need a new one then. they are sensitive to voltage changes, if voltage drops much will lock auto trans in 1st gear & various others things will stop working that draw much juice. Anything under 11.7 volts will trigger trans lock into gear on these vans. Autozone & O'Reillys checks them for free if you bring it to them.

I have a G30 chevy van, out of the blue it decided not to shift out of 1st gear, trans fluid is clean and full, what could be the problem ?

There could be a number of possible reasons why your G30 Chevy van is not shifting out of 1st gear. Some potential causes could include:
  1. Faulty shift solenoids: The shift solenoids are responsible for controlling the flow of transmission fluid through the valve body, which in turn affects the shifting of gears. If the solenoids are not functioning properly, it can cause the transmission to get stuck in 1st gear.
  2. Low transmission fluid pressure: If the fluid pressure in the transmission is too low, it can prevent the gears from shifting properly.
  3. Faulty transmission control module: The transmission control module (TCM) is responsible for controlling the shifting of gears in an automatic transmission. If the TCM is faulty or has malfunctioned, it can cause the transmission to get stuck in 1st gear.
  4. Internal transmission issues: There could be internal issues within the transmission itself that are preventing it from shifting out of 1st gear. This could include worn gears or clutches, or other mechanical issues.
It is recommended to take your van to a qualified mechanic or transmission specialist to diagnose the issue and perform any necessary repairs.

Locate the dipstick tube to check the trans oil and remove the dip stick and put the oil down the tube. Replace the dip stick and check the level when you think you have enough in the tranny. Hope this helps.

Auto trans wont change gears speedometer jumps up and down

Have you checked the fluid level? if not do so with engine running in park and e brake pulled Also look at the fluid is it brown in color and smell sort of like onions? if it does it needs a filter and oil change. most cars require the filter and oil to be changed every 30,000 miles. Also add Lucas transmission additive so that it will soften the seals and clutches. If you want to do this yourself let me know and I can give you instructions, however it can be messy. the transmission will take 12 quarts of fluid dexron III and the lucas oil conditioner. Write back if you need more help and thanks for using fix ya.

well what you want to do is change the trans control solenoid or the trans modulator.i know this car has a trans modulator but im not sure that it has a trans solenoid.either way it's a lot cheaper than changing the trans.hope this info helps. take care and good luck, manny

My van has 6 cyl. trans is auto. and electonic, and my problem is it want change gears. you can change them with shifter, but it want on its own I was told it has electronic cylnioids to shift trans, could...

Sixteen year-old van...a vehicle this age with the problem you describe likely needs the fluid and filter changed at the very least. If this doesn't fix it, unfortunately, you are going to need more extensive work, possibly even an overhaul (this is what I suspect). The solenoids get the signal to engage from the ECM. It is unlikely that the solenoids are bad, because they engage the shift valves whether used manually or electronically.
Good luck.
