I have a 06 ion and battery checks good but the car will not turn over at all, not even a click. could this be a bad starter or starter relay?

If only clicked then I'd say bad neutral safety switch but with no click which is a relay then you may have an ignition switch problem. That's in the steering column coming from the key ignition or the starter relay is fried.

Yeah no click or anything that could mean the starter solenoid is not working need to check and make sure your getting voltage to the starter solenoid if you are getting voltage than the problem could be in the ignition switch....

2003 Saturn ion won't start replaced starter battery is good clicks when I turn the key

http://ibb.co/imcorc

Battery has a full charge and battery connections all good on both ends not just at the battery? Click on the link, see the relay, unplug it, Use proper jumper between cavity terminals, u6 and v8 in the diagram, u6 in diagram is fuse protected and hot all the time, use a test light to check for voltage. That side of relay is the control side, has that arrowhead in diagram. The starter motor may crank the engine? This is just a test, if you try it, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. If it cranks with the jumper, but, not otherwise, the problem is on the control side of relay.
The clicking noise, can you tell if it is coming from fuse box or starter motor?

2003 saturn ion wont turn over at all dont even get the usall starter clicking just one click every once in awhile

How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit Looking at a wiring diagram an testing the starter circuit with a DMM - digital multi-meter is the way to find the problem . Free wiring diagram's here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size. Under system click on engine then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link .
Looking at the diagram you will see this starting circuit is computer controlled . Ignition switch is a low voltage input to the BCM - body control module. A message to the ECM - engine computer from the BCM requesting a start over the serial data network (class2) will energize the relay sending B+ voltage to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . Your best bet mite be to have it towed to a qualified repair shop.

My 2006 buick lacrosse wont start radio and lights work but its not saying nothing when i try to crank it

Hello! Do you hear a click when the key is turned?...If no click is heard either the ignition key, the Crank relay, the starter, or the battery are suspect...Having lights and radio does not mean the battery is capable of running a starter motor......Put a meter on the battery...should read 12.5 volts...Turn key...Does voltage drop to 8 or 9 volts? Bad battery...If all is well with battery and connections to it...Check the starter fuse # 33 in the under hood fuse/relay box...If the fuse is good that click you should hear is from the Crank Relay in that box...If all of the above is OK connect your meter to the Purple wire that is connected to the starter motor...When the key is turned 12 volts must be on that wire...If there is the starter motor is defective...So, #1...Do you hear a click when key is turned...That would point at a bad starter or weak battery...#2...If you do not hear a click bad fuse #33, bad Crank Relay, bad ignition switch...#3...If fuse is good Bad Crank Relay or Ignition switch; Crank Relay is a low cost item ($10)...Replace Relay...Stop there and send a comment as to results...Guru...saailer

My 06 Saturn ion only clicks when I try to start it

Check to make sure your battery is good. The sound you are probably hearing is the starter cylinoid. You can take it to a parts store (like auto zone) and they will check it for you free of charge.

06 pontiac grand prix wont start no clicking when you turn the key over even jump starting the battery, has dash lights & radio & parking lights. battery tested good. put a used starter & altinator on

Used parts such as starters and altinators don't last. It might **** but it sounds like you need to buy a new starter, altinator, and battery. Or just start with buying one at a time.

I have a 2003 Saturan Ion that won't start

Hi, this is what you should do when your car won't start. Diagnosing a no-start condition requires a logical approach to figuring out what might be preventing your car from starting. First, if the engine won't even crank over when you turn the ignition to START, your car obviously won't start.
When you turn the ignition key to start your car, voltage from the battery flows through the ignition switch to the Park/Neutral safety switch and/or brake pedal or clutch pedal safety switch (you have to push the pedal down before the circuit will complete) to the starter relay or solenoid. When the relay or solenoid is energized by voltage from the ignition switch circuit, it closes a contact that routes more power from the battery directly to the starter to crank the engine. The starter motor spins, pushes the starter drive gear to engage the flywheel and cranks the engine.

If the engine fails to crank, there is a fault in one of the components in the battery/ignition/starter circuit. Check it out.....
  • Low battery (Check battery voltage, recharge if low, or jump start with another vehicle or battery charger).
  • Loose or corroded battery cables (Inspect, clean and tighten BOTH ends of BOTH battery cables).
  • Bad starter relay wiring connections or ground connection (Inspect, clean, tighten wiring connections).
  • Bad starter relay/solenoid (Check for voltage at relay, if relay has voltage but there is no "click" when key is turned to start, replace relay).
  • Bad starter (Jump battery voltage direct to starter to see if it spins, or remove starter and have it bench tested at auto parts store).
  • Damaged starter drive or teeth on flywheel (Remove starter and inspect drive gear and flywheel teeth, replace damaged parts if necessary).
  • Bad ignition switch (Check to see if voltage reaches starter relay/solenoid when turn to start. If not, check for open P/N switch and brake or clutch pedal switch. Replace ignition switch if defective).
  • Open P/N safety switch, or open Brake Pedal Safety Switch (automatic transmission) or open Clutch Pedal Switch (manual transmission). Bypass switch with jumper wire to see if engine cranks, or use test light or voltmeter to check for voltage passing through switch when ignition is turned to start.
  • Engine seized due to bearing failure or internal damage (Use socket and long handle to see if engine can be turned by hand, if not engine is locked up).
  • Engine hydrolocked due to coolant leak from leaky head gasket (Use socket and wrench to see if engine rotates, remove spark plugs and see if coolant comes out or engine can not be cranked with plugs out).

Relay starter switch

simple thing the click your hearing is a bad connection from battery to starter or the ground

the battery posts could be coroded or frade
remove wire look for frade wire and adjust and clean on the post of battery both ground and positive make sure they have tight connection

also make sure starter has good connection this will also give you the clicking sound cause these things i decribed are just things that have a bad contact

now for the other part of clicking its not your relay cause obviously the power is making it but not much to turn starter

other things that can be wrong
starter silennoid bad
bad cell in battery even when the battery tester says the battery is good a dead cell wouldnt show
alternator not charging battery
bad ingnition coil

this are a few things that would run down and give bad battery click check with top of this help with the cables first this will probably be the cause
