hi, a possible cause for the motor to cut off could be excessive air intake near or around the intake manifold, check the area for any missing or loose bolts/nuts. Another way is to have a helper keep the revs up and feel below or around the vacuum pipes and carburattur area. ALL the luck.
Take it to another mechanic. He's full of it. If your heater doesn't work the problem isn't with a head gasket. The thermostat on the engine could be stuck open or the heater core may have a restriction in it. If your head gasket was blown, your engine would be overheating and coolant would be dripping out the exhaust pipe along with a white steam cloud that smells like antifreeze
you have the 3.0 V6, there is an oil cooler under the intake manifold that is known to cause problems, be very very careful if you try to fix it yourself, the saturn 3.0 is not an easy engine to deal with.

sounds like a possable vaccum leak around the intake dome. check for leaks with propane and a hose. attach the hose to the propane and use it to probe around all areas of the gaskets. if the engine idle increases quickly, you found the leak.
other possabilities include the fuel filter or pump, or possably the ignition coil pack. windstars have been known for electrical connection issues as well. check the battery terminals and the wires where they attach to the terminals for corrosion.
