it is staving for fuel , find that and is cured. (simple but reality is a beast)
why post to cars?, and not motorcycles. only.
dirty carbs will not like weak gravity fed tank pressure (natural)
dirty float needles/?
I bet all the above, that told
or just bad fuel.(age old)
Disconnect the fuel line from the carb. Put the fuel line in a container and crank the engine for 4 or 5 seconds. You should see good squirts of fuel. Better yet put a fuel pressure gauge in line just before the carb. You should have 4-7 psi. It might be quick to get a gas jug a start a syphon to the carb. Dont forget to catch the fuel from the disconnected fuel line. If it starts right up its probably the fuel pump. If not the carb may need a good cleaning and rebuild. Check float bowl level. Check idle air screw adjustment.
Fuel pump is not running (if electric) or floats stuck. Outside of those, hole in fuel line, possibly even line in tank. My old one had a sight glass on the float bowl where you could see if fuel was in it.
Sounds like a stuck or defective float.(perhaps a hole in it). Also check the needle valve for operation and if its installed correctly. That is connected to the float
Uncouple the fuel line coming from the pump at the carburetor, place a clean can under the line, and have someone operate the starter--you should have fuel shoot from the line in spurts as the engine turns. If it does, then the entry port on the carburetor is plugged. Remove the float assembly and pull out the float needle valve. Hook the fuel line back to the carburetor and try the starter again, there should be fuel pumping into the float bowl. If not, check to see if there is a filter on the fuel inlet path that may be plugged. If no filter, remove the float needle seat to see if something is blocking the fuel passage. If all else fails, use compressed air to blow backwards through the needle seat (remove the fuel line again). Hope some of this helps!
Sounds like you either have the float level set too high or you have debris getting into the needle and seat. To clear needle, disconnect the fuel line and divert it into a large container and allow the engine to run 'till it runs out of fuel in the carb and stalls. (use a length of rubber fuelline attached to the steel line to do this) Once it stalls, re-connect the line to the carb and re-start engine. The new fuel rushing into the carb shouls clear any debris. If that fails to work, remove the top half of the carb (you can do that on the car) and check that the float is not adjusted too high and manually clear the needle valve. I generally remove the stock filter in the inlet and use a larger plastic or metal inline filter in the line itself. Just make sure you locate it somewhere where it won't get really hot or interfere with anything that moves (alt, drivebelt etc). Needing to prime the carb does not indicate a flooding condition though if it's running out of fuel, while running to empty carb, check the flow rate. It should pump about a half gallon of fuel into the container before it stalls. Pressure should be about 5-7lbs running. Also check that the line to the tank isn't leaking. If it is, it will **** in air and stall the engine for lack of fuel. The mechanical pump and lines are a very simple system...something I mentioned here has got to help you! good luck and if you have any follow up questions I'll be happy to help!
It sounds like it's not getting fuel. Are you in a cold climate? The gas line could be frozen. You can check the fuel pump by disconnecting the gas line at the carb, you may want to put a length of hose on the line and catch the gas in a coffee can. Then have someone crank the engine while you watch to see if gas squirts out of the line. I wouldn't use too much starting fluid, you can damage your engine, pour a little gas in the carb instead. Also, on a truck of that age the gas line could have a hole rusted in it between the tank and the fuel pump. If that's the case the pump will not pull the gas out of the tank it will draw air instead. It could be the fuel pump itself. If you have a good stream of gas to the carb then the problem is in the carb. It could be the needle valve is stuck shut, take a screwdriver and lightly tap on the carb, that will sometimes jar the needle loose. If you have gas to the carb it could also be clogged jet inside the carb. I you hold the choke partialy closed will it stay running then?
snowblower no fuel . pull float bowl from the bottom of carb the bolt you removed from the bottom to take off the float bowl there will be a small hole in it take a needle make sure to clean it out . then clean out where it threads into .
