Its not hard just time consuming disconect yhe propshaft from rear of trans disconect the 2 gear arms thats on the side of the trans take of the master cylinder from the other side of trans dont bother removing pipe just full cylinder remove starter motor then the nuts keeping trans to engine last remove exaust bracket and then the gearbox bracket at the rear of transmition pull backwards or wiggle it backwards mind it weights a tone so have some one there with you or a proper gear box rest iv made it sound easier than it is like i said more time consuming than difficult
Could be the airbox touch the strut bar, there have been a few cases of that so check with hood open (park brake on) start and look close to make sure not touching anywhere.
Also have been reports of failed engine mounts so look at those closely.
possible but more likely issue with valve body in trans.is it a 5 speed auto?does it get worse the hotter the trans gets?the mounts are a common failure on these but generally when they fail you get a big thump when you initially hit this gas when pulling away from being stopped.
Take your car to a mechanic or your local auto parts superstore and have them read/scan the codes for the reason for the check engine light. A good place to start.
This sounds like your CV joint is bad if it is a front wheel drive. The CV joint will click or thump when you are turning. It will also make your front wheels shake if it is realy bad.
You say you hear the noise when you "slow down". Does this mean you hear the thumping noise when you let off the gas and let the car coast to a stop or only when you are applying the brakes to decellerate?
If you only hear the noise while applying the brakes then I would assume it has something to do with your brakes. The first thing that comes to mind would be rotors that aren't true or warped which could make a thumping sound.
Do you feel any vibrations in your foot when it is applying pressure to the brake pedal? If you do feel a sort of pulsating feeling then it could very well be your brakes making the noise.
It does sound like one of the universal joints. If you can raise the back end off the ground engage gear and the faulty u/v joint will make the wheel jump. This will let you know which side it is
