You need to reset the alarm/immobiliser each time the power is disconnected.....
I change the battery in my 2002 toyota camry and now the car wont stay on?
Drive it a few days and it should straighen out on its own. Computer has to reset. This also happens when the battery is disconnected. Some have said 10 minutes is the limit for the car to have no battery disconnection (replacing, discharged, or
disconected). This happened to me twice when I replaced the battery and when I disconnected it and left it overnight while I got an electrical sensor/part.

When you take your battery out and put a new one in all your computer controls have to be reset. You need to drive the car at 55 MPH for 2 min or so, stop, go through normal drive cycle, stop and go and then if it don't straighten out you need to clean the throttle body and the idle air control valve. Hope this helps. PHil

Check the manufacture's Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating. Some manufacturers recommend a minimum CCA. If your CCA is below the manufacturer's specs, it can cause your car to run erratically. This also can cause problems with your computer and give you faulty DTC's. (Diagnostic Trouble Codes - Service Engine Soon Light) This especially causes problems with General Motors cars. I'm always hearing of people with these problems. Let me know how it works.

When you replace battery in 2002 Camry ECM tries to reset to factory levels. The reason it will not idle is that the throttle body is dirty and ECM thinks it should be new!! Clean throttle body with cleaner that is safe for tbs and this will fix your idle problem.

drive it for a week or so the problem should correct itself, but if it doesn't do this procedure to clean the intake and idle motor.
Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

We had a similar problem with our 2002 camry - we replaced the battery and alternator. The car would only stay running if I kept my foot on the gas. It turns out we had to replace the throttle body - apparently this is fairly common, but not common enough for a recall.
