On my 1998 Japanese import Subaru Forester ( Engine: EJ20 model) Check-engine light intermittent - sometimes remains constantly illuminated. Engine diagnostic displays knock sensor error. Have read that changing the knock sensor will not solve problem because of a design fault. Any suggestions? Perhaps moving the knock sensor further away from crank shaft?

If your havinf any trouble I suggest you can pick up a repair manual from any part store and if you feel like spending around $26 you can get alldata online for you car for a year I just did it for some wiring diagrams and it helped me out bigtime good luck

Go to www.subaruforester,org and do a search for clock. This is a chronic problem but if you're handy with a soldering gun you can fix it yourself.

Check the cap and rotor for internal carbon tracking or, just change them. Also, take a look at the coil when its dark and rainy and see if there is any arcing where the coil wire goes into it.

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.
Testimonial: "Thanks for the great suggestion . I'll have Autozone read the codes on Monday. Thanks again!"
