When vw started to use the computer controlled gearbox system a criticism was the shift was very harsh,to counter this they made it rev slightly before changing.so that you know the system, try this out....without touching the gas.....put it in d and let the car accelerate to its max speed, stop, then use 1/3rd of gas (keep your foot still)and let it do the same...stop,then,if safe, put your foot to the floor, hard, notice when the car changes gear(revs/speed)then if you drive, only using the first1/3rd of the gas,the cars change pattern will alter to suit.......wierd it is.....

97 VW Jetta automatic trans not shifting without lifting off gas

The tranny's are notorious for having "small" problems before they actually let go. However, there is a sensor on the transmission that tells it when to shift as well as a couple of air and cooling sensors. Try having those tested/changed and see if that helps. If not, you may be looking at a new transmission

Transmission won't shift fron 1st, 2nd or 3rd correctly!

Sorry to inform you that it sounds like your transmission needs servicing.
Check the fluid levels and replenish if level is down.
If after doing this, the car still wont shift properly or smoothly,,then you will have to take the car into a transmission mechanic.

Transmission won't shift fron 1st, 2nd or 3rd correctly!

I'm no expert but it sounds as if you might have some moisture (water) contaminating your tranny fluid. I'd first try having it drained, flushed and refilled with fresh fluid. Preferably after it has been warmed to room temperature - -2 brrr.

Vw 2000 jetta tdi (a/t shifting problem)

Your right in as much as it shouldnt need complete over haul but a competent auto trans technician to clear the shift fault. It could be a solenoid or check valve that should be able to be repaired with out the transmission having to be removed.
