Replacing a 2002 Chevy Venture front wiper motor

Assuming this is my problem, my wipers go up instead of down when in the off position, otherwise operating fine. How do I replace a 2002 Chevy Venture front wiper motor? Is it worth doing myself or is it a quick fix for a mechanic?

Look online for the wiper module for this model. This is a common issue to include operation without the switch being activated. Everything is controlled by the module which screws directly on the front of the wiper motor by 3 torx head screws and measures about 4" x 4" and is very easy to install. The motor should be on the firewall. The modules run anywhere between $35 and 65. Let me know if you need anything else.

IF wipers work great otherwise,..make sure the wiper arms havent been previously removed and reinstalled this way.. in which case they would need to be pulled off and installed in down position

  • adamjstallma Jul 20, 2010

They haven't been removed since the windshield was replaced several years ago. Haven't had any problems since until yesterday. Worked fine in the rain, made a stop, turned the car back on and once after hitting the mist mode they went up instead of down when they were done. Now nothing I can do to get them to go down in the off position. They actually operate fine, they even pause at the bottom of the windshield like normal, but go up instead of down when they shut off.

We're replacing the motor, gear box and plates to

The wiper linkage and blades should be in the neutral position, or where they would normally lie when in the "off" position. Hope this helps. Remember to disconnect the battery while replacing electrical components.

I an '03 Chevy Venture van whose windshield wipers won't go down.

Your windshield arm is in need of repositioning. Take off the cap on the windshield arm and loosen the nut under the cap. Reposition the arm so that it faces 180 degrees flat to the passenger side of the car. Tighten the nut. This should solve the problem you've described.

I am trying to replace the front wiper motor for my 2001 chevy venture. The wipers are not parking fully down, and the intermittent setting parks the wipers about half way up until it is ready to wipe...

Check that you have connected the wiper motor correctly - ensure that you havent inadvertently got the polarity wrong!.
Leave the wiper arms off until you get the motor to run and park using the normal wiper on/off switch.
The motor 'park' control switching is normally an integral part of the motor drive gear and is not adjustable.
During your testing, affix a temporary indicator pointer to the end of a wiper arm drive shaft (use masking tape or similar) to prevent damage to motor or levers.

There should be a circuit breaker which shuts down the wipers when they are frozen. Sounds like the breaker didn't do its job and the wiper motor fried. My guess is it needs replacing.

2001 Pontiac montanaThe front wipers park in the up position

This is a common problem with Chevy Venture, Olds Silhouette, and  Pontiac Montana. The mechanical wiper drive and parking cam assembly, if it's not broken, needs adjustment. The spring loaded stop arm should engage the vertical tab on the assembly mounting plate when the wiper motor reverses. See pic.  9a7b0af.jpg
I will upload the instructions to fix this problem, if there is interest.

Windshield wipers

You will need to replace the wiper motor. Most likely the circuit board is bad. You might check with your local chevy dealer and see if there is a recall on the wiper motor before you buy a new one, even if you are not the original owner the car the recall will still be done free of charge. Some chevy models did have a wiper recall. I hope this helps.
