Most likely just replace it. You could pull the fuse and then use a small screwdriver to try and pull the tabs inside the receiver in toward the center a little. It could be that repeated insertion and extraction of the lighter or accessory plug has bent them outward enough that they're not making sufficient contact to power what you plug in. If that doesn't work, replace it and then put the fuse back in.

if the fuse is good and there is no relay then either you have a loose ground/positve wire or the socket is bad. you can easily purchase a after market socket from Napa or Oreillys for a few dollars of the problem is not a loose wire or bad fuse. good luck please rate this solution...thanks

This is a very common issue, either the ground at the back of the lighter socket is pulled off, or more likely the socket is defective, they are very easy to change, u can use a generic replacement from any parts store, the factory part will be at least 2X as much..

Unplug cigarette lighter, check circuit, unplug each door individualy at first, Don't forget the back doors, check circuit. Usualy the door wiring is damaged but there may be more then two cigarette lightes depending on the model.

The code is pretty standard and has to do with emissions. Manufacturers these days have strict rules to emissions that the car puts out. So, this code relates to that.
It is Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
P0440 EVAP System No Flow During Purge Possible Causes Setting Conditions
So, basically if you drove around with the gas cap off, or something else has happened, then this code would come up.
I would disconnect battery for 1 minute, and reconnect and see if the warning light comes back on.
Just remember you might lose your radio code if you do this.
Let me know how it goes...
