Your brake fluid is low. I have a 2005 aveo that i took to dealer under warranty and told them the clutch didn't feel right and the brake light kept coming on. they told me they have not seen either issue i complained about charged me 700 dollars in labor and rental fees and sent me on my way. I then proceeded to take it to the used car dealership i bought it from and they bled the clutch and said they got alot of air out when chevy told me they didnt get any. Anyway about 3 weeks later the light was on steady and the clutch began acting funny again. I bled the clutch myself this time and didnt check the fluid level or i would have caught the next dangerous part. On the 2005 chevy aveo hatch back i have with a 1.6 5 speed shares one reservoir for brake and clutch fluid. I was driving along one day down a 12% grade about 2 mile long stretch and my brakes failed. I filled the brake fluid reservoir at first chance i got considering my arm was sore from operating the hand brake for 6 miles or so. the light went out. It will probably come back on as did mine. the leak in my system was a check valve under the brake master cylinder. be careful until you get to fixing it.

2005 chevy aveo with code #p0602 will not come out of park without using shift lock and has no brake lights

Power train control module. Reprogram with the correct software and calibration. If that doesn;t work, then PCM must be replaced and programed with correct software. Bring to a mechanic.

I have a 2008 chevy aveo that won't shift into gear unless we press the shift lock release. What is causing that and how expensive is it to fix?

It could be a few things....I just had this same problem with my 2008 chevy aveo this week. Also, my check engine light came on the very next day after the gear shifter started locking. I called Bob Bell and they told me that the gear shifter locking is probably due to a sensor going bad that tells your car it is in park. However, after taking my car to my brother-in-law (who has very LITTLe knowledge about repairing cars), we discovered that my brake lights were not working either. He told me that is why my check engine light is on - because it is extremely dangerous to drive without brake lights. We checked the fuses to make sure there was no fuse blown and they were all just fine. So bottom line, the problem was that there is a brake switch under your dash board where your brake is. My switch keeps sticking and will probably eventually need to be replaced. When the switch works properly, my brake lights work fine, my gear shifter unlocks and my check engine light goes out. Not sure how much it is to fix this switch if that is the problem but I hope it helps!

My 2004 checy aveo sometimes does not shift out of

These have a brake light switch that controls both the shift lock solenoid and the brake lamps, so chances are that if it is not a fuse then it is the brake light switch.

BRAKE LIGHTS AND SHIFT INTERLOCK NOT WORKING

Hello Joe...The Aveo has had it shares of problems, and this is one of them....NHTSA issued several bulletins on the 04 Aveo...this following is the one pertaining to the shift interlock.....

Make : CHEVROLET Model : AVEO Year : 2004
Manufacturer : GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
Service Bulletin Num : 070730007 Date of Bulletin: APR 01, 2007
NHTSA Item Number: 10022265
Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Summary:
AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER MAY NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK (REPLACE BRAKE TRANSAXLE SHIFT INTERLOCK (BTSI) SOLENOID). *KB

Take that bulletin number to your dealer and see if they can help.

Untill you can get it repaired heres a little tip for getting it out of park....There is a a little hole in front of their gearshift lever that can correct the problem, temporarily. It should say "brake interlock release" or something like that. With car running, put a key-size object into it and push down while moving the lever. It does not damage the transmission, it just releases the lock. (make sure your foot is on the brake)

Now for the brake light issue...do you have power at the switch you replaced? If so go to the relay and check there...if no power there it's probably a bad ground.

Also...you may or may not know, but the timing belts on these Aveos are prone to failure at aprox 50k ...these failures have caused severe engine damage.
Good luck...i hope the information i've provided you find useful.
Please time to rate me.

Rear brake lights wont work on our 2005 chevy aveo ????

It sounds like you should check for power at brake pedal switch. Hook up a test light to the switch and press the brake pedal. If the light does not go on and you have power in the wires to the switch then the switch should be replaced.
I hope this helps you out
