Road wheel off, brake caliper removed from rotor disc, remove cap in middle of rotor exposing the bearing retaining nut, remove split pin that holds the nut from turning and wind off the large nut, once nut is removed you can remove the rotor and bearings, the rear roller bearing at the rear of the rotor may need to be levered off with a screwdriver, should come off easy, replace in reverse order

Replacing studs

  • You have to remove the hub bearing assembly and press them out and then back in. DO NOT USE A HAMMER!!!! A stud press works the best. If I was doing the job and the car has a number of miles on the old hub bearings I would just replace the whole assembly with new ones. They have new studs already installed. www.rockauto.com is a good site to get that kind of stuff. Happy Mechanicing!!

Need to know the torque specs for a rear wheel bearing on a 1999 monte carlo?

Hub & Bearing 3.8L engine Removal & Installation To Remove:
Hub and bearing assembly mounting 88008g39.gif

All W-body cars are equipped with sealed hub and bearing assemblies. The hub and bearing assemblies are not serviceable. If the assembly is damaged, the complete unit must be replaced.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  4. If equipped with rear disc brakes, remove the caliper, bracket and rotor.
  5. If equipped with rear drum brakes, remove the brake hose bracket and drum.
  6. If equipped, detach the ABS electrical harness.
  7. Unfasten the four hub/bearing-to-knuckle attaching bolts, then remove the hub/bearing assembly.
To Install:
  1. Install the hub/bearing assembly onto the knuckle. Install the four attaching bolts and tighten to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  2. If equipped attach the ABS electrical harness.
  3. Install the rotor, caliper and bracket or drum and bracket, as applicable.
  4. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  5. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

How do you remove the rear back seat to a 2002 chevy monte carlo

Most cars that do not have bolts are hook at the front end of the seat. You need push down really hard on the front end of the seat and pull the seat forward and up. This will unhook the latch. Good Luck

2002 Monte Carlo.. My abs light and trac off light comes on and stays on. when I come to a stop the brakes feel like they lock up for a second or two..

You need to find out what code the abs is setting. A quick check would be to look where the front wheel speed harness are look at the connector check to see if the wires are broken. If not you can use a ohm meter and check the resistance on both front hubs. Check from hub to ground on both wires should have unlimited and the check across both wires and I think the spec is around the 1000 to 1300 omhs

2001 monte carlo ss. Rear wheel bearings making a grinding noise

It is pretty easy, there is not much labor involved if it has anti-lock brakes in the rear you will also have to un-plug the wire harness attached to hubs.
