Jeep 1999 wrangler Power steering pump failure

I have a 1999 Jeep wrangler 4.0 eng w/AC ....The power steering pump is boiling over back through the reservoir cap. The pump started making the rattling bearing noise and then I noticed the fluid started to flow out of the cap on the PS reservoir, it looks dark and foamy as it's flowing from under the cap and down the side of the reservoir. .... My assumption is that it is the PS pump has gone bad and it needs replaced and I will replace the pressure hoses as well since I have to take it apart anyway but when the pump goes bad does this create any problems with the reservoir tank assembly or the steering gear that I need to be concerned about?

I would be surprised if any damage is caused to any other steering parts if it's only the PAS pump not working normally

Not normally
there may be metal flakes in the filter in the reservoir so replacing it would be a good idea
don't bother repairing the pump, it will be more cost effective to get a new one
if short of cash , get a good unit from the wreckers/ junk yard

SOURCE: 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee leaking coolant and power steering fluid

Just a heads up, $10 bucks will buy you a seal kit for the P.S. pump. I topped mine off for a couple months, then the oring on the high pressure line (from pump, front center) blew and dumped the reservoir in a matter of miles.

The line can be a stinker to get off, recommend driving the car for a few minutes to heat up the pump a little. Don't forget the 20MM wrench.

SOURCE: Replace power steering hose on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The line will cost you about a hundred bucks, its annoying but better then having the steering go out while on the road. As far as replacing it, have a long handled 20 mm wrench handy (same size top and bottom). I would also recommend driving around for a couple minutes to heat up the lines, then ever so slightly loosen them. The heat makes them come off much easier - just make sure to let it all cool off before you take it apart.

SOURCE: 1987 Jeep YJ Hard to start hot

Sounds like a bad distributor control module. You blew-up your muffler because there was no spark.....lots of fuel in the exhaust....then an intremittent spark......BOOM!
Once the module cools off, it works again, because the crack in the circuit board re-connects....until it gets hot again, and opens the circuit........no more spark. Replace the module.

I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4.0L and while driving I can hear a faint humming every so often. I thought it might of been the A/C motor, but it was still doing it with the A/C turned off. It's...

harmonic humming ( harmonic vibrations ) indicate a problem idler pulley bearing , water pump bearing , alternator bearing or power steering pump bearing It is not considered an ac compressor bearing because when the ac is energized that pulley bearing stops spinning when the shaft starts turning and you state that the hum persists with ac on or off

How do i replace serpentine belt on 1997 jeep wrangler

Adjustment is made by loosening the power steering pump. There is a transverse long bolt (jack bolt) right under the pump that is used for adjustment.

Where is the serpentine belt tensioner on a 1999 jeep wrangler with A/C?

most have a "jack screw" under the power steering pump. You loosen the pump mount bolts and adjust the screw underneath to tighten or loosen it.

Jeep Wrangler 1997: Broken power steering pump

I don't know what the date was when you inquired. But, if you drive it will be o.k. as long as there was no fluid loss. You will just have to overcome the stiff steering. If you lost all of your fluid you will seize the pump and then it will throw the belt and you will be walking because your water pump will cease to turn and the engine will over heat.

Are you putting power steering on the jeep???? If so, you will need a new power steering sector first, than a power steering pump. All of this is easy to do. all of it bolt on.
