the ac compressor is controlled by the thermostat connected to the evaporator under the dash When the cab air temperature reaches the set temperature the ac compressor switches off . IT is called cycling. If it causing a problem with the engine rpms then there is a sensor problem not an ac problem so run the fault codes to determine where it is . ECM's are programmed to maintain constant rpm regardless of the load placed on the engine at idle.
very posible its the ac compressor and yes it has to be replaced complete take belts off turn pulleys one at time and check for play at pulleys if any noise coming out of ethere one thats the problem ok
There are a few reasons for the compressor not engaging. Lets start with the most common. low ac gas.A bad clutch on the compressor.Blown fuse. Let is start with testing for low gas. (134a freon).Locate the dryer. this is on the passenger side of engine compartment. it looks like a tall cylinder, on the top side you will see a switch. unplug switch connector and jump the two terminals in connector with a piece of wire, this is the low pressure or cycling switch. you will be completing the circuit by jumping a wire across the terminals.If the compressor turns on when connectors are jumped then you are low on gas and the system needs recharging. If the compressor does not urn on then check all fuses, if fuses are good then the next step is to go to compressor and test for power and ground. If you have power and a good ground on the connector to compressor then compressor clutch is bad.A bad clutch will some times blown fuses, so if you replace the fuse because it was blown and it blows again then clutch is bad. Another test that will help is when you remove the connector from the cycling low pressure switch , test the connector. one wire on the connector should have power when ac is turned on, Hope this helps let me know what the outcome is. If you replaced the compressor yourself and tried to charge the system with those booster cans from the parts store, then air and moisture remained in the system. This will prevent you from getting the correct
charge and the correct pressure in the system. This can cause the lowpressure cutoff (on the accumulator right side of firewall) or depending on how much R134 was put in) the high pressure cutoff (on the compressor) to cut power to the compressor clutch assy. If this is
the case, have the system evacuated and charged with the proper
equipment and that should clear it up. However if it was charged properly, check the 2 cutoff switch's I mentioned. There should be power in and power out on both with the a/c on. There is also a relay
for the a/c you can check. But due to the split year in 95 it's located in
1 of 2 places, in the fuse relay block under the hood or under the right
side of the dash above the glove box. Remove the box for easier access. Hope this helps
