have the battery load tested as it appears that there is a dead cell . Lights will work but when there is a hugh current flow the battery chucks it in . Check that the battery posts and terminals are shiny clean and tight.
hi,there is a fuse on the radio it self on the back it sould be removed.the radio will show a safe display on screen,the radio code is normally in service book but if it is not u can get it at a vw dealer by giving them the cars vin num and radio serial num the serial num wil be on top of the radio wen it is removed.hope this helps
OBD2 codes could stop starting. Buy a OBD2 reader from an auto parts store, ($70). Read the codes and write them down. Clear the codes. See if will start. If you need to find the OBD2 port look in the repair manual CD. ($16 Ebay). On a 2003 TDI it is under the steering wheel, just to the left a bit. If you have codes, you can look them up on the repair manual CD.
Reach in and you'll feel a large finger-grip able nut, back it off (DON'T DROP IT) and place it somewhere retrievable. Take a small-flat-bladed screwdriver and wrap it in cloth so you don't scratch the paint. Poke said protected blade between the inside body joint and the tail light, gently pry tail light out. Remove offending bulb, replace with new. Installation is, as they say, the reverse of removal.
Tell me more, please. Have loaner Beetle, and driver headlight has fallen down inside housing. Found this link, and hoping to open it and put it back together. Did not find anything on a recall on Internet.
