Try removing the radiator cap when the engine is cool and top off the coolant level. Start the engine with the cap of and let it run to operating temperature which is when the thermostat opens. If you lightly grab the upper radiator hose. If it is cool or warm, the thermostat has not opened. If it is hot, the thermostat has opened. At that time have someone assist you by sitting in the car to rev the engine up (1800 to 2000rpm) and hold it there while you once again top off the radiator and tighten the cap. DO NOT BRING THE RPM DOWN TO IDLE WITHOUT HAVING THE CAP ON TIGHT! THE HOT COOLANT WILL OVERFLOW FROM THE RADIATOR! Then let the engine run to see if the air has escaped. You may have to do this procedure more than once. If at any time you feel that the engine is getting too hot, tighten the radiator cap and then shut the engine off. Then let it sit and repeat the steps above. Constantly monitor your temperature gauge at all times.

How do i burp the coolant system on a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 cylinder

When the engine is cool open the Radiator Cap and make sure it is filled to the top with Coolant. From there locate the Coolant Reservoir and make sure it is filled to the level marked on the side of the container. Now this is where the confusion comes as "burping" the cooling system comes from decades ago and is not necessary now. When the Cooling System is properly filled the system will purge its self when it runs and shuts down. The important part is run the engine to completely make the nominal operating temperature and when it cools the Coolant will move around. This is where most people open the Radiator Cap to check which introduces more Air into the system. Do not open the Radiator but rather check the Reservoir which you should see actually lost Coolant is it gut sucked into the Radiator thus topping off the system.

Replaced radiator on 2008 jeep now gets hot & cuts off

I think it is related to the cooling system, still having air in it. Make sure the heater is running/on when your running the engine. Could be a faulty ECT sensor (engine coolant temp.) but proof it out. proof it out, remove the sensor and see if there is air behind it and see if the sensor is within parameters.

Air conditioner wont cool off.

While your hood is open and engine running can you hear the air conditioner compressor kick on and off as the engines idleing. Check the fuse for the ac unit. And worst case it could be your compressor witch can be pretty spendy.

2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo overheats when vehicle sits idling. Cools down when i take off and drive down the road...??? Please help. thanks

Many cars have a thermoswitch threaded into the radiator that activates the fans when engine exceedes normal optimum opperating temp. This sensor may have failed , or one of the 2 wires that go to it may have come unpluged or broken

I don't know of any real proceedure, Just make sure its full and there is no air traped in the system, If there are any bleeders like around the thermostat housing, or any where in the cooling system open them up while you fill it to let any air to excape If not just fill radiator untill your sure you can't get any more in it before you start it.

Radiator fan for 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Had this problem and one thing that even Chilton manuals only show in fine print sorta say is that Jeep cherokee has a relay sensor for the coolant fan usualy right behind the passenger or driver side headlight you may have to remove the bumper also its rather easy. Its a liitle black box thats screwd down on the panel just unscrew it unplug it replace mine ran me around $60.00.Before I learned about this after replacing the thermostate and just about to rip out the water pump my buddy told me about the sensor after replacing over a year ago no problems.
