I just bought a 2000 mustang coupe after a tune up my cars engine light came on and when i started the ignition the car started jumping. Then my father took it to a mechanic for a diagnostic and they detected that the cylinder 3 misfire.it recently just went out on me i was driving it home and it started making a loud noise then when i pulled up to park it stopped on me and started smoking and know i want to know how much this would cost to get fixed and how much damage is this

timing belt/chain possible

if its a handchiffted gearbox put in highest gear.
puch the car to the front and back till you hear a click.
if he starts .check the ignition.if this is not correct the car have a death spot.

some vehicles cannot be jump started from another vehicle with the engine running on donna starter as it damages the ecu. you just use the battery or a jump starter system. so time if you remove the battery and put on charge with a battery charger the time it takes for the battery to be fully charged should give the ecu time to drain down on its components. if you leave the ignition and lights on with the battery disconnected. but only jump start without the other vehicle's engine running.

it is a common problem with GM cars and trucks after 2000. I have 5 cavaliers in my shop this week with the same problems. it is cheap to get other one from the junk yard

Unplug the battery for 15 minutes then reattach the cables. But remember by doing this you loose all of your pre programs.

One can only speculate on the total cost of repairs of this nature. Please have a professional look at the car. For a rebuilt engine I suggest JASPER ENGINES because they stand behind their engines.

In closing - For head gaskets and head work you can expect charges around the 1,200 dollar USD range for more extensive work it can go easily as high as 6000 dollars USD for a new engine.

WELL I HAVE AN RS TOO I BOUGHT IT LIKE THAT AND THE WHOLE DASH WOULD SHAKE AND I FOUND OUT THAT THEY NEVER GAVE THE CAR A TOTAL TUNE UP AND AND CHECK YOUR HOSE I HAD A LITTLE LEAK OF A VACUM AND THE WHOLE ENGINE WAS RUNNING HARD , I CHANGED THE BELT AND GAVE IT AQ TOTAL TUNE UP MY CAR RUNS GREAT NO SHAKES AND IAM SAVING MONEY ON GAS SINCE THE TUNE UP , IF YOU JUST WANT TOT PIN POINT IT RUN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON IT , OH YEA THE RS HAS ALOT OF RECALLS LIKE THE FUEL LINE CLOGS I TOOK IT IN AND THEY REPLACED ALOT OF STUFF AND IT RUNS GREAT

can you hear the start relay under the bonnet clicking when you turn the ignition on?.

if you can...then I suspect your starter motor is dodgy.

Bought a very reputable diy service manual for the vehicle, and that plus a bit of thought and nous gave me the cure: no intrinsic problem other than loose relay connections. Went round with the wiring diagrams as guide checking all electrical connections in tight and relays fuses etc all good. Switched on and no problem any more.

By the way, vehicle is 1992 VW Polo - not Fox (which in UK is a variant of the Polo)
