How to fix surging and fast idle 1999 chev astro van

Clean the throttle /throttle plate, MAF(mass air flow sensor) (if you have one), and the idle air control motor. You can use brake clean and a toothbrush. But not on the MAF sensor. Just spray it with brake clean.

NO HEAT AT IDLE

I would almost garuntee you have a bad water pump. When water pumps get old there turbines can wear off and even though they may still be there they want be as efficient. When this occurs you can normally rev the vehicles r.p.m. to about 2000 rpm and the heat will start working.

Speedodometer sticks occassionally.

those had a recall and it could be replaced under warranty but if not it costs a good bit to get done the mileage probably still adds up but the speed is incorrect. My cousin just bought a gps unit for around $100 and uses it to tell how fast he is going his cruise still works just not the needle telling the speed. The repair on the instrument is around $500 last I heard.
