I have a 1999 mercury villager that has a slight misfire at idle but does not seem to affect performance much when off idle. The tachometer is also stuck at 2500 rpms. Code P303 shows. I also hear a sound like a vacuum leak but cannot find. I Changed plugs and the plug wire on #3 tested ok.cannot get at the injector to check because of the intake manifold
First clean the MAF sensor with carb cleaner several times with spray.
Then spray short bursts around intake manifold connections to see if idle flares up. That is where leak is.

Check the following
Please rate this a fixya
SOURCE: Tachometer not working on 1999 mercury villager
his problem is caused by the failure of the circuit board that operates the tach needle, you will have to remove the instrument panel then the tach from the panel and send it out for repair to an authorized Nissan electronics repair center, contact your local dealer for the name and number.
SOURCE: 2000 Mercury Sable 24V 3.o engine. Need to know
yes about the upper intake and the only way i know how to check the coils is with a engine anilyser or if the check engine light comes on then you can have the codes pulled and that will tell you which cylender is missfiring this engine has a indevidual coil for each spark plug so thares 6 of them and thay slide right down over the sparkplugs
SOURCE: Intake manifold cracked and leacking coolant (External)
You can clean the area really good with degreaser and apply JB Weld but that is only a temporary fix it will leak again
