Likely a gas or spark problem. Spray starting fluid into the air intake while cranking it. If it then runs for a few seconds, it's a fuel problem-maybe the fuel pump, filter, or injector circuit. Check if gas is getting up to the engine.
Buy an inexpensive "spark tester" at a parts store, and check for spark- if no spark, the ignition circuit will need diagnosed- could be the ignition coil, maybe the electronic ignition module-several possibi9lities. Let me know what you find, or if other questions..
Try spraying starting fluid into the intake. Remove the air filter to do this. If it starts for a few seconds then you have a fuel delivery problem. If it does not, then you have an electrical problem with the ignition. there are 3 things needed for an engine to run if it turns over. Air, Gas, Spark (fire). No air filter solved the easy air issue. Add starting fluid answers the fuel issue. Only leaves spark after that.
Safer is to use 'carburetor cleaner' which is also flammable but a little less dangerous than using gasoline.After sitting a long time, our modern gasoline gets tired; never allow something to sit so long without adding some 'fuel stabilizer.'If possible with your car, I would drain (siphon) the tired gas out and replace it with a few gallons of fresh. Really tough starting problems can also be overcome with 'starting fluid' which is pure ether and very flammable.Any of these may require the removal of the engine air filter so the liquid gets into the intake manifold. Stale gasoline can also gum up the fuel injectors which may have to be removed for service if none of the fluids causes the engine to fire.
1. Check to see if you are getting fuel. You should be able to hear the fuel pump start when you first turn the key on. It should run for 2 secs and then stop. Someone can listen by removing the gas cap and putting their ear close to the fill nozzle too. 2. If you do not hear the pump, remove the air cleaner inlet hose and spray a couple of squirts of WD40 or starting fluid in the intake section entering the engine. Try starting the car again. If it starts for a few seconds and then dies.. you have a fuel pump problem. 3. Remove a spark plug wire and insert a screw driver or something metal into the inside of the wire. Have someone try starting the car while you are holding the screw driver near a metal part of the engine. You should see a spark.. if there is any.. 4. The most common problem if it has NO spark is the Crankshaft position sensor.. Good Luck..
You can check to see if your car is getting gas. Check all your fuses as well. Make sure your fuel pump is kicking on. Your filter could be clogged too. You can spray engine starter or gas into the intake to tell. If it starts and dies, you have a gas problem. If it does nothing, it is probably sensors or ignition system. That is distributor, spark plugs and wires, cam sensor, ect. Try to have your car tested for troubleshooting. The codes will lead you the right way. It may even be an ecm. i have the same problem wit my 92 gt,,,just today it happened,,,"cranks but wont start"= IGNITION SWITCH,,,it has spark, fuek pump and fuel pressure is all good,,,
