I have hearing a lot of this lately with Fords. Most of the time this dash board light comes on due to problems with the Throttle Body (TB)not just your coolant,etc.. If it is sticking, dirty, causing misfires, etc. then this can cause an engine fail safe mode. You might first try putting in some injector cleaner and a higher grade of gas. Many people I know who have had this problem have had to have their TB cleaned and/or replaced. This is something Ford dealerships now about, but hasn't been made a recall or anything. There are service bulletins though.Mainly keeping cleaner in your gas and performing ritual tune-ups/oil changes may be the only thing you can do.Hope this helps

I got this failsafe mode when the DamperPulley that runs on crankshaft broke due to rusted ballbearing.

The car stalled and engine failsafe mode came up.

engine failsafe mode is a safety function in Explorer that prevents the driver from driving that faulty car for long distances. it only allows enough room to park the car somewhere near.

This is how I was able to remove failsafe mode from my vehicle I have a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer when my car went into failsafe mode I was shocked as you were I discovered that if I took off the positive battery cable from the battery post waited a few seconds took a wire and jumped into the negative battery post to the positive battery cable this would deplete the internal battery in my PCM which would wipe out the failsafe mode the and you will be able to drive the vehicle you'll have to find out what is causing the cold to prevent it from coming back up again I hope this helps

I was driving (2005 Ford Explorer) & it made a beep,on the dash a pic of an wrench popped up,the dash said "Engine Failure safe mode",within a minuet it died. It also said Low Oil Pressure. Help!

There a problem with the engine. Check engine oil level, before starting vehicle back up. Make sure you are on level ground. Could be a sensor

But, the best thing is find out the Check engine light code, so you or a shop can start diagnosing.

I have a 2004 ford explorer xlt. the indicator says engine fail safe mode. what could be the problem?

Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) is an alternate system strategy in the PCM designed to maintain engine operation if one or more sensor inputs fail.
When a sensor input is perceived to be out-of-limits by the PCM, an alternative strategy is initiated. The PCM substitutes a fixed value and continues to monitor the incorrect sensor input. If the suspect sensor operates within limits, the PCM returns to the normal engine operational strategy.
All FMEM sensors display a sequence error message on the scan tool. The message may or may not be followed by Key On Engine Off or Continuous Memory DTCs when attempting Key On Engine Running Self-Test Mode.
With the fail safe mode was the "Service" wrench light lit or check engine light ?

What is the reset fail safe mode on ford Explorer 2005?

This is the best answer I could find but it appears that your owners manual has the answer in it unless you are in the position this person is in after disconnecting battery. Good luck.

Power loss message, car not performing

this might have been caused by by a sensor developed problem.when this happens, the engine control box or ECU goes to fail safe mode /Limb home state.this enables you to drive to a safe place e.g home /garage.

Changed oil and air filter on a 2005 explorer and started engine. The engine went into fail safe mode. Disconected battery and diagnostic returns,

Is the map sensor disconnected? Check your intake tube for something that is not right, it sounds like something basic.
