I have a 2000 Ranger with a 3.0L V6. The air conditioning is fully charged and blows beer-tap cold... After a while. It takes nearly 10-15 minutes of the engine running and the AC being turned on before the compressor clutch engages. Once it does, it runs like a champ, but I have to deal with 15 minutes of hot, muggy air first... Any thoughts?
Ok my problem was the a/c relay in the engine compartment... who would have thought something so simple..... :")
I'm having the same problem, any advice you have, or what was wrong with it would be appreciated.
How do you know it is fully charged?Did you just charge it?There are many different ways to go about finding out what is wrong. If there is not enough or proper amount of freon and oil then your AC may not work or work intermittently. It may be that and once your vehicles AC has been engaged for a while it builds up pressure and then kicks the compressor on.Hooking it up to pressure gauges is about the only way to be sure of the "Charge" of your AC system. Also check your compressor.Does it look fine?Any leaks?Any freezing of lines?Etc.It is always possible that your relay is not operating properly. There are many different things that could be a factor in it working.Even check out your temp switch.Maybe you could check these things and post back and we'll go from there.Good luck and hope this helps.
I also have the same problem with my 2001 ford ranger. I have big machine here at the shop. The a/c system is fully charged. So far I have changed out the orifice tube.. the acccumulator, the cycle switch, and jumped the high side pressure switch. It has progessively got worse. It use to be around 10min now it is around 20 to 30. Any ideas?

Low charge or bad sensor telling the system it has low charge, or dryer is clogged.
